Unhappy Do you cringe when you see bad parenting in action?

I've just realized this bothers the living fuck out of me. Parents with little kids who a) don't pay attention to them, ignoring them b) ostensibly minding them but allow them to bother everyone in the fucking room or c) parents who are overly harsh/mean.

I just think, "Damn, I could so much do a better job than you."

Yes. Sometimes I think that parents need to pass a good parenting class before they have kids.

All the time. Annoyingly rude children with parents who are just as bad never fails to make me seeth with rage. Imagine what sort of adults these kids will grow up to be! It is truly unfortunate.

My parents are authorititative.... I wouldn't want a child to grow up in authoritative households... It's more neglectful and rigid than democratic.

Re: Do you cringe when you see bad parenting in action?

yes, then again, i think about those who really can put the time into their kids in this day and age. and i think people should have licenses to have kids, but that's too, you know, big brother telling who's able to have kids or not.

My mom did that to me occasionally when I was young and we went shopping.. man, but if I was your kid you'd probably do the same thing. I needed a leash.

Definitely amen to the Walmart thing. Like I really needed another reason to avoid going there.

i hate parents who let their kids run around
and make a lot of noise in a public place,
especially in restaurants that aren't family
oriented or in subway.
this is just annoying.

or parents who handle their children in
a harsh physical manner.
for example, when the child is crying
for a treat at the supermarket and she
yanks on his arm.
or parents who use harsh language.
this is just uncomfortable to watch.

My parents were both very quite strict when I was young however they knew how to balance between encouraging me and laying down the law.

I also feel sorry for the kids who have received a harsh hitting for just being themselves (i.e. kids).

Could a do a better job though.... Hmmmm there is more to parenting then meets the eye.

a) don't pay attention to them, ignoring them
i think it depends on their reasons for ignoring them. there are certain kids who demand more attention then humanly possible. i knew this one kid who was like that... he needed to always be the centre of attention. and sometimes, parents need to just teach their kids that always being the centre of attention is wrong.

QUOTE:
b) ostensibly minding them but allow them to bother everyone in the fucking room
i have to say that this bothers me a lot too...

c) parents who are overly harsh/mean.
i get uncomfortable when i see parents being really mean to their kids. it makes me wonder if the kid's punishments at home are even worse! i hope not...

The non-family oriented restaurant I can understand, but in a noisy subway does it really matter?

Since toddlers shouldn't be muzzled, people should understand that they are going to make noise in public.

Re: Do you cringe when you see bad parenting in action?

i like it when they're in strollers. since their parents aren't paying much attention to them anyway, they usually don't notice when i push their kids to the back of the stores.
