anyway so this indian friend of mine who's this chess god went to china for some chess tournament thingy. anyway so he tells me over there, he's with some scuzzy dudes at a posh hotel (probly geared towards westerners) and one of em comes back from the massage parlor creeped out cuz the lady asked him to "turn over"

and then some other guy, in his words an "ugly german" is curious so he goes to find out for himself. later he comes back and tells him that the call girl went to his room (my friend said she was actually pretty fine) and then she pulled a number on him after sex, like the security guards came and strongarmed him over the price, and he ended paying a few hundred more than what was agreed (boohoo)

anyway i dont think my friend is the type who'd do this sorta thing

is china really this funked up?

Par for the course for any country with an emerging economy that features very poor locals and a lot of comparatively-rich foreigners, with corrupt officials and law-enforcement often content to look the other way for the right price.

Try Russia, for example.

Really? I went back to china last year. stayed in shenzhen and shanghai for around a week each, and I never saw anything that seedy. I saw alot of migrant workers living on the streets, but nothing as rampant as what you're talking about. How did you come about this info?

my parents and my brother went to shanghai last september.

Been there, seen that.

Shanghai isn't as bad as Shenzhen in terms of being in your face. There's probably a streetwalker scene, but most of the stuff is confined in buildings: saunas, barber shops, nightclubs, KTVs, etc.

Shenzhen is a madhouse. At night, around the Shangri-La, there were dozens of prostitutes and almost as many hawkers. The girls can't be too blatant themselves, but the hawkers'll follow you for a half-a-block if you're a single, foreign male.

If you were in that area at night and didn't see this stuff going on, maybe the scene has moved somewhere else. Maybe officials recently did one of their periodic crack-downs. Major holidays and Party events are always precipitated by street clean-ups.

And no matter where you are in China, if you check into a hotel room as a single man, expect to get annoying phone calls at all hours asking you if you want a "massage."

i think if he was with his family, he would see less of that.

but yeah, shenzhen sort of has the best of the best. girls from all over china go to shenzhen to try to make a quick buck. it can get very darwinistic. :D

yeah that shit goes on there, too. but it's not exclusive to shanghai.
