at the buffet

were any of you ever taught to not get the cheap stuff like vegetables and the rice at a buffet or if you get free food?

i stayed late at work friday night and the company got us some free food. they had a big plate of salad there and the whole time i was looking at the salad and thinking, what would my mother say if i got the salad? so i ended up not getting any. hahah!

Whenever I go to a buffet with my family, my brother, my dad and I always get dirty looks from other patrons (dun think my mom appreciates it too much either) because we empty large amounts of expensive seafood onto our plates. So much for saving face in this respect. Usually if the serving platter at the bar is half full my brother and I (or maybe just one of us) usually end up emptying it unless it's clear that someone is in line behind us who wants some as well. Might as well get our money's worth. Before writing this off as another example of the Chinese efficiency and cheapness gene/trait, I'd like to note that we also get bad looks from other Chinese people in Chinese buffets. My dad always tells me that I eat like a mainlander, whateva that means.

me and my buds head right for the seafood. especially the sashimi, lobster and snow crab legs. we go right after we hit the gym, especially on a back or a leg day. once we had like 10-12 full plates each of sashimi and snow crab legs for 17 bucks at east.

we rape the place dry. pillage and plunder the place just like how the japanese do it back in the day at nanking!

hmm... i rarely, if ever touch seafood served in a buffet line...
I'm the girl that gets veggies and sorts :P

...my parents owning a seafood store has given me too refined taste for seafood... boo. I'll wont be able to afford to buy fish that is the quality my parents sell for a while..and even still...I dont think I can drop hundreds of dollars on seafood.

i used to be allergic to crabs and shrimps until i was about 10. i would itch all over if i had them.

God, yes. I used to get sermons every time my father would spy a pile of mashed potatoes or rice pilaf on my plate.

"But I like potatoes! I like rice!"

I mean, I like prime rib and I enjoy a certain amount of stuff like King Crab legs, but even the premium items at a premium buffet fall short of the quality that one would get outside of a buffet, albeit for a higher price perhaps.

But slap down a perfectly-cooked slice of prime rib or a rib-eye or a whatever and I'll be perfectly content to forego steam-table gluttony, not to mention the fact that I won't have to mull over any cost/benefit analysis regarding starches and my stomach capacity.
