i tend to pinpoint one or more characteristics that i admire in a person and try to keep them in mind when practicing that particular trait. for example, i admire my best friend for being his patience, so when im having trouble keeping my cool i think about him and so on and so forth.

Ok I don't have a female role model, but i've been reading tonight and i thought this would be a nice passage to post:
first a side-note... Claire Lee Chennault was the leader of the American mercenary pilots, "Flying Tigers", in China. He became Brigadier General when the US formally entered WW2. "Chennault won the support and affection of Chiang Kai-shek and his wife Soong Meiling. He was bowled over by Madame Chiang's youthful looks and command of English, which she spoke with a 'southern drawl'. He later wrote in his diary, 'She will always be a princess to me.' Chennault revered both of them as inspirations for their country and as great leaders. This view was shared by many former China missionaries, and other Americans, who saw Chiang Kai-shek as a symbol of the 'free world' that the allies were fighting to restore. Some reporters, however, were not captivated by Madame Chiang. The English writers W.H. Auden and Christopher Isherwood perceived her formidable qualities when they met her in 1938: [i:91d0686a48]She is a small, round-faced lady, exquisitely dressed, vivacious rather than pretty, and possessed of an almost terrifying charm and poise. Obviously she knows just how to deal with any conceivable type of visitor... She could be terrible, she could be gracious, she could be businesslike, she could be ruthless; it is said that she sometimes signs death-warrants with her own hand... Strangely enough, I have never heard anybody comment on her perfume. It is the most delicious either of us has ever smelt...[/i:91d0686a48]" - passage from [i:91d0686a48]The Chinese Century[/i:91d0686a48] by Jonathan D. Spence and Annping Chin. For those of you who don't know, Soong Meiling had two sisters who were also very influential and powerful figures that were involved in this very tumultuous period of time in China's history. The story of these three sisters is very famous and there is even a movie made about them called The Soong Sisters, starring none other than Maggie Cheung, Vivian Wu, and Michelle Yeoh as the sisters. But for a more accurate account of their story, you should probably pick up a book. I have one called [i:91d0686a48]The Soong Dynasty[/i:91d0686a48] by Sterling Seagrave that I have not read yet. |

I admire:
[b:a08d3ec7f4]my mom[/b:a08d3ec7f4] for being strong-minded... for being able to keep her cool despite of all the troubles involving our family... for being a SUPERWOMAN that she is in her little ways. [b:a08d3ec7f4]my sister[/b:a08d3ec7f4] because she is just so great! [b:a08d3ec7f4]lea salonga[/b:a08d3ec7f4] because she has brought enjoyment to people world-wide through her talent in both singing and acting. She has brought pride not only to the Filipinos, but Asians as a whole through her performances, one of which is the "Miss Saigon." In spite of who she is and what she's become, she remains humble, and I truly admire that. __________________________________________________ ___________________ "He exalts himself will be humbled. do any of you have any "real" female role models? not just cartoon characters? cause it would be pretty sad if the only females you admire are fantasy characters.
