how do you know if your poor memory can be attributed to 'e'? as opposed to old age or just a naturally poor memory?

yep, ecstasy.

here's a bit on 'e' and memory loss:
Those who often use ecstasy can lose their ability to form new memories, according to a study in the April 10, 2001 issue of Neurology. Participants in the year-long study reported taking ecstasy an average of 2.4 times a month during the year. Their memory was tested at the beginning and end of the year. The testing was performed on days when they had not used the drug in at least 2 weeks, and had blood and urine free from ecstasy. The ability to recall a story after a brief delay declined 50% over the course of the year! We still have a great deal to learn about the effects of this popular drug. We do know that it works in the hippocampus -- the part of the brain associated with learning and forming of new memories. In many ways, the hippocampus is our bridge both to the future and to the past.

i dunno. a pretty huge percentage of the students at my law school drop or do harder drugs...or at least in my class. during my first year, i was under the impression that all attorneys did one drug or another. ...i'm still under that impression.

i once saw a special on mtv.
this girl who was addicted to that stuff had a cat scan (??)
brain scan. whatever.
not sure. and she had.. holes in her brain.

so i guess if you have holes in your brain.
because of the drug use.
and... you're not remembering stuff.
it's probably the drugs.

although, maybe when you're older your brain mass might
decrease... don't know about holes.

where's the doctor when you need him?

kasie. were you a druggie???

Some guy came to my hs about it, how for some people even if you use it a few times, for some people it'll punch holes in their brains and possibily leave them debilitated for life or on perscription drugs.

*strugs*

That made me too scared to ever drop.

there's studies saying that taking it will hurt, and there are other studies of those studies saying that they were flawed b/c those ppl were taking other drugs at the same time. so... no definitive proof. and there's ppl saying it needs to be used in therapy cuz of its benefits and its actually in testing now i think.

most likely if ppl took it in moderation they will be fine. say a pill or two every two weeks. hardcore rollers i don't know about.

one note... for those who have ordered dancesafe.org's pill tester, there was a news story saying that the results are difficult to interpret correctly. as in, one of the pills containing not "e" but morphine was misread by some ppl involved in a study.

blatant governmental scare tactic to try to stop kids from buying it. cuz purchases usually funnel money to crime syndicates.

of course, the obvious way to stop the money from flowing to crime syndicates would be legalization, then public companies would get into producing it, do it for a lot cheaper than the criminals, consumers would get cheap brand name e backed up by some drug company, whom you could sue if you get dangerous unannounced side effects.

Most mind altering drugs (both legal and illegal) will lead to some degree(varies from person to person) of long term chemical and structural changes in the brain if you're on it for a long period of time.

If you take a structural MRI scan of a heavy and long term Ecstasy user you will see structural changes in the brain i.e. neurological tissue atrophy. The same with if you compare a schizophrenic patient MRI scan before he/she was administered meds and after being on meds over a long period of time.

We're not talking about a CAT scan or a MRI scan with contrast (Gado). Just a structural scan only.

If it's a structural image scan. The holes you see is probably brain tissue atrophy but depends on whether the scan is done and viewed on sagittal, coronal or transverse plane. Iit can appear as holes depending on where the atrophy is located on the brain and which planar scan sequence you're viewing it from.

Dunno never saw the MTV special. But, I would assume they'd show both the CAT scan/MRI scan with contrast and a pure structural MRI scan to show chemical and structural changes over time to get the full effect.

i agree with legalisation, but i think you are oversimplifying the issue.
you are assuming that legal businesses can sell it for cheaper than criminals can. you are also assuming that consumers will always go for the "quality" e as opposed to the e that could be laced with all kinds of other stuff that criminals (who would not be criminals anymore) sell in order to sell it cheaper. the only way that companies can be held accountable to produce "safe" e is if there is regulation. so basically legalisation would create a black market, and thus not completely eliminating the problems that legalisation is supposed to eliminate.
