This thread is mostly about Christianity's more political details, more for Christians in general, and I know that would only fit about 5 percent of the people around here, but I need an outlet so here goes.
First, to get this out of the air, I am a follower of Jesus Christ. Secondly, I am not loyal to Christians if they get out of line and away from the original teachings of Christ, which means I put God above church. Those two things being said, I need to vent the following: - I absolutely do not tolerate disrespect towards other religions. Most of the people who grew up in a church and have only been exposed to Christianity goes around on their high horse saying they don't like Muslims or Hindus or whatever and that their religions suck...these people need to have an open mind and learn about other people's religions. If not, then they need to shut the hell up. That's called religious insecurity. If you were a seeker of truth and a seeker of God, and you believe in Christ, then what harm is it to be in the company of another religion learning, buying books of their religion, and learning of their religion? What, are you scared you would convert? Heh. - I do not like Christians ( and have felt this during the first 23 years of my life when I was Buddhist ) who do not talk to other people or make friends with other people because they won't come to their church or disagree with their views. Christ taught us to love everyone and anyone regardless of what they are. Yet so many Christians are hypocrites on this fact alone. They'll befriend you to the point where they'll ask if you want to be a Christian, and when you said no, they'll leave you and never talk to you again. You can't do that. That's selfish. That's wrong. You are to be with people no matter what they are, and stick with them whenever they need help. - The church is not above God. I repeat, the church is not above God. It is okay to disagree with your pastor ( or priest if you're Catholic ) and ask him questions. A church that prys you for your money is not a Church of God. It is a church of profit. - Do not hide under the sanctuary of the church. Jesus rubbed elbows with prostitutes and drunkards and killers. He didn't spend all his time hanging around the Ned Flanders of the world. I'm sure if Jesus were in flesh today, he would go to a strip bar and a club and jail houses and spread the good news. A church should be filled not with squeaky clean people, but people with ill-repute...much like a hospital should be filled with sic people and not healthy people. That is the function of the church. To heal. Go out and find the toughest, ugliest most homeless toothless dude and show grace. Go to a hooker, pay her 10 dollars an hour, and listen to her talk about herself ( not that I've ever done that ). Don't discriminate people. Love all. - When you spread the Gospel don't start with " Jesus loves you ". You might as well be speaking French. Get with people on a secular level...spread the Gospel-lite ( the teachings of Jesus minus Jesus ). The first step is for them to understand that the teachings work ( grace, compassion, patience, prayer ). If they can't even accept that, then why go into more deeper, more surreal things? Start on basics. - Reference to Scripture is more or less pointless with non-Christians who have never read the Bible. I remember years ago, someone gave me a line of scripture and said nothing more. I forgot what it was, but the point is, I didn't have someone to interpret the meaning. I ended up throwing it away. - Don't act like Ned Flanders. I don't mean to diss some of my church friends, because I like them a lot, but...come on, their idea of fun is putt putt golf and bowling. What next? Bible Monopoly? Those things distance yourselves from other people. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like Bible Monopoly , but if I were to hang around a bunch of other people I wouldn't say ' Hey guys, wanna come to my house this Saturday and play Bible Monopoly?! ' You talk about a Christian repellant. Go to bars. Go to happy hour. There's nothing wrong with clubbing or even the local arcade. The more things you have in common with society, the more acceptable they would be towards you and perhaps, even like you enough to listen to your opinions about God.......and then you can play Bible Monopoly - Don't condemn people to hell. You're not the Exorcist. - Do not act like you know all that, because true Christians would never act like they know all that. Our whole belief system is based on faith. We're SUPPOSED to say we don't know all the answers. It's perfectly okay. - Please don't pray to ballgames. Nothing is more stupid then seeing a bunch of Lakers fans praying for the Lakers to win and a bunch of Kings fans praying for Sacramento to win. Just enjoy the damn game. Have a good time. - If you want to learn more about another religion, do not ask a Christian. They'll always tell you it's wrong. If you ask a Jew about Christianity, they'll say Christianity is wrong. Ditto for others. You want to learn how to cook Chinese food, you ask a Chinese chef. You want to learn how to cook Italian food, you ask Mario. Dig? - There is no such boundary as not dating non-Christians. It's okay to date non-Christians. You won't go to hell. I promise. My friend once said " but they'll bring you down ". Look, if you truly believe in God, and have faith in God, nothing can bring you down. You can only bring them up. - Admit you may sound crazy. You're going around telling people that you believe in a book which says people lived up to 900 years, that the first female was made from a rib, and that the sea was split in half. Yes, trust me, people will think you're crazy. And it's okay to admit that. - Read the Bible. Nothing pisses me more then a Christian who has never attempted to read the Bible. My cousin, a Christian, doesn't know when Christmas is. That's sad. Sorry if this offended anybody.

* Shameless plug: For those of you who want to see more hardcore religious views, you can view the original here which was posted two weeks ago: http://www.shinraonline.net/board/forumdis...?s=&forumid=407 That is, if you're into that stuff. [/shameless plug] Picture number 20 now works. I like the " if you don't pick a denomination you're going to hell " comment.

the Bible says christians must shine be a light to the world and must stand apart from non-christians to show them the way. balancing interacting with society and becoming one with society is a very difficult proposition because of the temptations involved.

Thank you Ali Baba. You took the words out of my mouth.
Most of my rant had a lot to do with religious insecurity. I believe that if you're not ashamed of what you believe in, nothing can bring you down. Granted, if you are a weak willed person you shouldn't be in a place where you might do something stupid, but if you think you're secure enough and that you can go to a club and dance the night away, and say no to strong liquor, then what do you have to be afraid of? What does it say about you when you're so afraid to be with non-Christians that you avoid being with them at all costs? What would the public view Christianity as when they see Christians acting like this? I just feel it's very unChristlike when people avoid interaction like that. Consider the believers the Jews of yesteryear and the nonbelievers the Gentiles of yesteryear. Christ mostly hung with Gentiles, rubbed elbows with prostitutes, talked to sinners more then He did saints. Why? Because people who live a life of too much sin ( aka they can't control themselves and their lives are going in a spiral ) could use someone to come to when they have problems. Someone who has their head straight. A druggie, for instance, could use a non-druggie as a friend. Don't wait for them to come to church seeking help...'cause I tell you, it ain't happening.
