yelpers

just curious as to how many YWers turned into yelpers? do you just browse or write reviews. do you find them helpful? is it a real community (as in the reviewers get to know one another as the members do here) or do its members pretty much function independent of one another?

Re: yelpers

i love yelp. i browse but i think i'll start writing some reviews.
because i've gone to some great places that don't have much reviews
and really awful ones that deserve some bad comments.
i find it very helpful. i use it mostly for restaurant reviews and yarn stores.
but not everyone is a great critic.

Re: yelpers

I've yelped a total of four times. First time because restaurant was extremely rude, disrespectful, and their food sucked. Wrote three reviews, one for a great place that wasn't busy on a saturday night, and two for places that had a lot of bad reviews but are decent.

I personally think a lot of yelp reviews are really annoying. Some people tell a whole life story in the post, and all I really want to know is, good, bad, okay, what do recommend or not recommend. Have to say though yelp is really useful for moving to a new place, I found a dentist, doctor, optometrist, vet, on yelp.

Re: yelpers

There have been a number of times where I have started to write a review, only to give up halfway through. Takes too much time to write a nice-reading review. It seems recently though that my opinion and that of the average yelper is diverging more and more...

Re: yelpers

a lot of yelp reviews seem kind of snotty. everybody wants to be a food critic.

or maybe it's just that i'd eat anything.

Re: yelpers

I use yelp to write bad reviews on places that I think have horrible service.

Re: yelpers

I use Yelp to kill time, and find places to eat, mostly.

Fine, mostly places to eat.

But I do write reviews. If I remember.

And unfortunately, depending on the experience, you may get a life story, you may not.
