Re: young & restless in china

I have seen it. China in the red or whatever the 2003 pbs frontline docu is called is really good too.

Yeah I love PBS they really do cover China pretty well. It's also interesting because they show some ABC's/returnees starting up businesses in China as well.

Re: young & restless in china

I'm not tucked away in a cubicle. I'm at the front desk, answering phones, with people constantly walking back and forth around me, including the higher ups.

This is why I don't wear headphones at work. But I'm flattered to know you think about me so much as to inquire about my inability to wear headphones. Thank you.

Re: young & restless in china

Well whaddya know, I just got back from a week-long trip to Mainland China (specifically Shanghai & Beijing).

It was just jaw-dropping to see how quickly things had changed. Previously I had visited Shanghai in 2003 and Beijing in 2006 - between then and now whole swathes of both cities have been rebuilt, there are new roads, highways, subway lines, airport terminals and there has been a huge increase in the number of well-dressed citizens and expensive cars on the streets.

I will probably post a thread under the food and travel section complete with pics.... it's just totally unbelievable.

I was in Shanghai and Beijing in 2007 and then earlier this year in January with my girlfriend. I noticed both cities were looking pretty good. Went bike riding (freezing my ass off) in the old hutong part of Beijing. Took random subways to check out different parts of Beijing which was also fun as hell. Sometime later next year i'm seriously thinking about staying in China for a couple months. I'm really curious as to what the art/music scene in both of those cities is like.

Re: young & restless in china

did anyone see the part where that whole village of people was getting cancer because of the nearby factory unloading into the river? thats probably my number one concern from seeing that documentary. will the law ever catch up with the technological boom?
