Guess it depends on who. I just hope the games goes well for China's sake. I don't really care for or about the government's schemes to display China's greatness or whatnot, but for regular everyday joes in China- this is a pretty freaking big deal to show progress of how far a nation has come after decades of turmoil. As a Chinese-American I can sympathize with that to an extent that the games don't get fucked up. Lately though, I've gotten to the point where I don't give a shit about defending my politics or opinions.

If the games go a way Westerners don't like or the government fucks it up, well it's not really about me nor does it affect me much really even though I'm supportive of China hosting the games.

I'd recommend ppl to read articles on how the Government are aggressively selecting top athletes and conscripting them at a relatively young age to go through military style discipline.

I'd love China winning gold medals and all, but to place a child in this miserable habit of waking up, studying, refining skills and working out in the gym for 8 hrs a day, 365 a year, its kinda gruesome.

Its kinda gruesome the way the government recruits children to go with the national pride agenda. It goes to show HOW MUCH China wants gold medals and to affirm their status as superpower in the athletic arena.

I think this is really wrong for those who are involved for the sake of winning gold medals, rather than the love and passion for the sport.

I have pretty much the same feeling.

I'm pretty proud of China as a nation being able to host the game, even though I think both sides are trying to use the olympic game to their political agendas.
