SUV's suck

I don't think SUV owners necessarily SUCK, but I think there are definitely a lot of negative externalities stemming from widespread SUV use and not a whole lot of actual benefits...

How widespread is the use of SUVs ? Is it pretty equitable across some of the states or more of an issue in certain states where lots of people have ego issues (Texas, etc.) ?

I think that the only people who absolutely NEED to drive stupid SUVs are people who live on the frickin' mountain...and I don't know about you guys but I don't see any kind of mountain or even a tiny hill in Illinois. IS this a status symbol? Yes for those who feel real insecure about themselves and think that climbing down from their 15 foot high vehicle will make them that much "cooler"...ok whatever jackass.
And then there are those who get SUVs because they can and they just have lots of money floating around them...carpool for chrissakes!!! You might as well do something good for the earth if you're gonna destroy it. Sheesh. :pissed:

Reasons I would get an SUV:

1) haul my boat
2) haul my trailer
3) haul my so-called sports car (at least I think it is)
4) have sex in the back
5) off roading to get to the sand dunes

And none of that bullshiet full-independent struts bullshiet.

I think it's bad to generalize that all SUV owners do not drive their SUV's offroad. It may be true for the majority but would be unfair for the few that use it the "right" way.

SUV's do far more harm than good. They suck gas and pollute like crazy. They block peoples' view. They generally can't stop as well as a car or handle as well as a car. I'm guessing 90% of people never take it to a place that necessitates the long suspension travel. That irks me. The rest of the 10% actually use them. ie: I have to rent an SUV to go to my yearly camping getaway because the last 45-60 minutes of travel is completely off-road. That is useful.
