Never been to HOng Kong am going this Dec

I'm such a banana, never been to asia in my life...

where's the funnest area and cheap place to stay because i'm not well off and am saving a few bucks for for this and would rather spend it on shopping/eating/partying than accomodation.

The cool thing is there's a deal right now where i can get a free flight from HK to any one of 9 places in China or 2 places in Vietnam.

So can anyone here help me with some suggestions?

And also would you go to Hanoi or Saigon(ho chi minh)?

I may just go to hong kong for a few days and stay in vietnam for longer.

I heard it's cheap there and the beaches are nice.

looks like pretty inexpensive accomodation.

is it a total dive or good enough to just sleep for a few hours? I don't plan on staying in the accomodation at all just to pass out at night and that's it.

Is it hot in Vietnam in Dec?

It's actually very decent, it was actually a nice escape from my shitty living conditions in Taipei and worth paying for instead of sleeping on a friend's couch in HK in a closet if a living room.

I went to Hanoi in March and it was very pleasant, I doubt it will be hot at all in Dec.

i did look on expedia at some cheaper hotels and it's about $70-100 a night. How much is that hostel if you convert the HK currency?

When I was there it was under 300 HK dollars per night. I thought the location in Causeway Bay was totally worth it.

CSB was my old hang out spot! i lived about a 15-minute bus ride away in North Point. i saw Kelly Chen there once sitting in a van at 2 in the morning probably waiting to shoot a scene.

If you're going to Vietnam I suggest you get an open-jaw ticket that lets you fly into Hanoi and out from Saigon (or vice versa). That way you can go all the way down the coast.

Re: Never been to HOng Kong am going this Dec

^thanks,

how do i get to nha trang beach from Saigon? can you fly over?

If you had 15 days to split between HK, Saigon & Nha Trang,

how would you split it up in that order?

4 days HK, 4 days saigon, 7 days nha trang? is what i'm thinking but i don't know. i want to stay for a few months but i cant ;(

I've never traveled to Vietnam and when I explore the world I go for months. I suggest you pick up a Lonely Planet Vietnam when it comes to the fine details of your trip.

By the way, I thought you were going for longer for some reason. If you only have 15 days, it may not be worth it to get the open-jaw ticket.

Re: Never been to HOng Kong am going this Dec

I would go for a month or two but my girl just got a new job and has to lie and say she's going to a funeral. And my job would fall apart if i went that long. there's no one to cover me and my job might not be here anymore if you catch my drift

i will one day take a leave of absence or asked to be laid off if we aren't going to be that busy for a few months.

but being the only specialist at my work that's not likely because i usually always have work helping to get jobs if i'm not actively working for the customer for a job we already sold..

If you have the budget, this restaurant, the one located in Kowloon is definitely worth checking out for the vibe, food, and the view.
