Sporting a beard
I'm going to be going into an interview for a job. It's the third and final interview that I have to pass in order to get it.
The job I'm applying for is telephone technical support for a popular video game system. I'm told that I can dress business casual, and this is what I did on my second interview. I am 28 years old, look 18, and love video games like a 15 year old. Just recently, I've started to get enough hair to where it almost looks like a full beard. Should I wear my beard to the interview? I feel like if I don't wear my beard, people get the wrong idea about me. But on the other hand, don't people usually shave before going to work? |

Re: Sporting a beard
My recommendations, don't wear the beard. It never hurts to be clean shaven, but wearing a beard could cost you.

Re: Sporting a beard
Get rid of the beard. Tattoo a swastika on your forehead.

Re: Sporting a beard
So you can complain that the potential employer didn't hire you because they don't like Nazis.

Re: Sporting a beard
i've heard employers are partial to mutton chops and van dyke beards.
is this true?

Re: Sporting a beard
Sigh, at least you can grow a beard, I'm one of those hairless Asians that can't even grow a soul patch. A thin mustache is the best I can hope for.
I don't know what technical support is like for video games, but if is anything like computers or other high tech products, it can be very stressful. You will get a lot of assholes who like to take their frustration with the product on you. So don't take any of their comments personally and you should be fine. |

Re: Sporting a beard
ha, i just started growing mine out and i'm around your age.
it seems men age slower as well. it's just like a goatee at the end of my chin and that's it. no hair on neck really or side of jaw, just the tip of chin and just below the bottom lip. LOL |

Wow, now that my geeky flip out urge is gone, it'd work better for you to be clean shaven for any interview, and if not, keep it well groomed/trimmed. |

Re: Sporting a beard
I am one of those super-hairy South Asians. I had a hairy chest, arms and could grow a dense beard when I was 15 years old. I spend so much more time on shaving than less hirstute men, but I have met women of all races who find it very manly. I do not know how it affects employment though.

Re: Sporting a beard
LOL, there's a new gas station at the end of my road.
it's east indians. there is a kid there that's like 7 y.o. and he has a full beard and eyebrows with a bit of monobrow. he's going to be a beast when he gets older. |

Re: Sporting a beard
7 y.o?? You`re exaggerating a tad. Some women find hairy men very manly....and some don`t. Don`t know what employers think about beards. I guess it depends on the job.....and the employer.
