Who's more homophobic?

The person who supports gay rights, such as marriage for gays, but when they want to demean somebody they call or imply that other person is gay.

Or, somebody who may support civil unions, but is not willing to support gay marriages, but would never demean somebody by calling that other person gay.

Re: Who's more homophobic?

I'm looking at this question, replacing homophobia with racism, and getting the same answer. Both are discrimination, just on different levels (institutional vs. personal). Both are damaging, but it could be argued that the institutional form is worse. But then again, you just can't beat the sting of hearing a slur from some idiot kid's mouth.

...though personally I prefer civil unions to gay marriage, as a compromise. My views on that subject are still fluid though.

Well it depends on person #2, like trisphote was saying it seems to be replacing racist with homophobic, just because person #1 says those things doesn't mean that person #2 doesn't carry the same mindset as a typical homophobe, just because they don't say these things when you're there.
