I <3 roomba.
![]() I love my roomba. Just got a refurbished Roomba Discovery from Amazon for 132 shipped (after discount code) got the scheduler thing from my friend for 20 bucks. Its fun to watch it go too. It gets the edges, goes under the table, around chairs. under the bed. crazy... downside is gotta watch out for tassles,thin wiring that it can get caught on.. It rocks the casbah.

Re: I <3 roomba.
I got the discount from roombareview.com in their "chat" forums.
they have a stickied thread about where you can get the cheapest/best deals on roombas. Mine was a rebuilt/refurbushed one but it looks just like new. no scratches. nothing looks used. everything looks brand new. 132. Not a bad deal. Cheapest is the "Roomba Red" i think it can be found for 79 - 99 refurbished. It doesnt have the self-finding docking station, laser wall, or the scheduler. just the vac and the charger. but all of those can be bought separately. I got hte discovery that came with the docking and "laser walls" wall holder and quick charger. as for how it works. It's pretty badass. it starts from like cente rof the room. goes around in a circle going around object, going along the walls. it has a edge brush. it has a dirt detector so it'll turn around and get whatever it missed. it even has a remote so you can control it yourself if you just wanted to get one particular spot. It's battery on my first test lasted long enough to do a kitchen, tv room, hall way and a game room and another bedroom before dying. it will get caught up in rug fringes/wires though.

Re: I <3 roomba.
that's cool. most of my place is tile, and what carpet remaining is soon to be replaces with bamboo flooring. My place gets dog hair everywhere. This would be perfect.

What about the Scooba ?

Re: I <3 roomba.
Scooba = Mop Robot.
Roomba = Vacuum Robot. Scooba is probably the best option for people with tile/hardwood floor. kinda pricey at 300 - 400 as its brand new. You'd need alot of hardwood/tile to justify that price at the moment. I'd wait for the next version, a price drop or some refurbished ones to show up. Roomba works well on tile/hardwood as a vacuum/sweeper but it won't replace a mop. This model (roomba discovery) is suppose to be 250 or 279 or something brand new. I dont think i'd pay that much for it brand new. the 134 on the refurbished was jus in my range. it's darn addicting to watch though.

Re: I <3 roomba.
I don't think the scooba would be very effective.

Re: I <3 roomba.
^ Why do with your own elbow grease something you can have a mindless robot do for you instead?=)
I bet you like to remember people's phone numbers instead of using your cell-phone's address book. And lemme guess, you're still using a typewriter instead of a word processor?=) As long as the robots aren't smart enough to either turn on us, their masters, or realize they're being exploited, I'm perfectly cool with improving our standards of living off of of robots' backs.

Re: I <3 roomba.
arex: why yes, i DO remember things like numbers and birthdays extremely well, but i do use the contact list on my phone. and no, i don't use a typewriter. i actually hated using my mom's when i had to write reports and before we got a computer. plus, i think email and ims are making everyone stupid. i like old-fashioned letter writing. nobody seems to know how to do that anymore.
raacluse: thank you for your correction, professor.
