Ultimate/Official Xbox360 vs. PS3 vs Wii Thread

With the coming of the next-gen consoles, which one will you get and why? At my parent's place we still have the Xbox, although my brother took it to college with him, I am partial toward the microsoft machine.

I was never a big fan of the PS2 and after FF7 none of the major RPGs really grew on me from Japan. So, playing some games like Fable and Ninja Gaiden and Otogi, I really like Xbox for coming out with decent games. Also, most games look better on the Xbox anyway.

With the release of Xbox360 so soon and PS3 and Revolution so far away, do you all think the later releases will affect the same difference we saw with the PS2's massive library of games and the Xbox's lack of substantial games?

I don't think the answer will lie necessarily in the technology, but the games. Especially, with the PS3 with the FF franchise and Metal Gear and Xbox with Halo and Bioware's developments. On the other hand, I think I'm going to be buying the Nintendo Revolution.

The major selling point for me is the promised "free" library of games available for downloading. I think the best era of games was during the SNES era. I don't need the video game console to suck up my entire life playing an RPG or building a sports franchise.

Also, I want games to be fun, not consuming. I have YW to be consuming. So, what are you thinking about buying and what might you buy? And why?

Re: Ultimate/Official Xbox360 vs. PS3 vs Nintendo Revolution Thread

The only system that I'm really anticipating is the Revolution. Nintendo's first party games are usually reason enough for me to purchase their systems. That and I think the gyroscopic controller could really add a new dimension to gameplay. On the other hand, I question how long one can really wave his or her hand around in the air before getting tired. I don't think there's anyhing free about the downloadable library of NES/SNES/N64 games, however.

I'll also likely pick up a PS3 if only for its BluRay drive. I had a PS2 but didn't play it nearly as much as I did the GameCube so I donated it to my little brother.

I never really gave the original Xbox a fair shake but I may look into the 360 this time around. I'm going to wait 'til there's a large enough selection of "got to have it" software before I take that plunge, however. Nothing really piqued my curiosity on the original Xbox. Not even Halo. I was a fan of Perfect Dark on the N64 though...

Oh by the way, apparently there are cables that will allow you to use the Xbox360 on a computermonitor. I was looking at screens of someone who was using their 24" dell widescreen LCD as a monitor. It was ... awesome.

Re: Ultimate/Official Xbox360 vs. PS3 vs Nintendo Revolution Thread

While I admire many of the PS games, I have never been able to get used to the feel of the PS controller, and that has limited my appreciation for the platform. The specs are much better for the PS3 than the 360, but i don't really have the video hardware yet to take advantage. Plus, early reports say that the PS3 could likely cost twice as much as the 360.

Re: Ultimate/Official Xbox360 vs. PS3 vs Nintendo Revolution Thread

Probably an Xbox, if we still have the time, money and inclination for it when it comes out. I was holding out for PS3 because I've never been too excited about Xbox exclusive games, Microsoft, and those weirdass controllers. However, Mr. Kim, who has avidly campaigned for the new Xbox over PS3, pointed out that Sony is making it difficult for developers to design for their platform and it's release is much earlier than PS3. Therefore, most of the good games are likely to be made for Xbox.

He won.

Re: Ultimate/Official Xbox360 vs. PS3 vs Nintendo Revolution Thread

I haven't played XBOX for months now after getting trashed in Halo2 numerous times. I don't care that much about console games anymore. However, I prolly want XBOX 360 only because it'll come out in Fall/Winter when it's cold and can't do nothing much outside.

Re: Ultimate/Official Xbox360 vs. PS3 vs Nintendo Revolution Thread

Also, I'm holding back my Sony purchases for a while because of the CD rootkit thing. Not only is it irritating, but it indicates how far sony will go to lockdown their content. At least the Xbox was hackable into something useful. Still remains to see what the 360 and PS3 can be hacked to do.

Yeah, I'm wondering what I can put on that Xbox360 myself. My brother already put some modifications on our older Xbox. Hey, since it uses PowerPC processors, what's the dealio about putting Mac OsX on this thing?

the rootkit fiasco was done by Sony BMG (a 50/50 joint venture with BMG), which is a different company than Sony electronics.

I agree with you 100%. In fact my current xbox is the only microsoft item I own. I will probably break down and get the 360 though. Or maybe not, maybe I'll just stick to Diablo LOD on my Mac...

Off topic: How does it run on the mac? I'm sitting in front of a dual PowerPC 1ghz, 1 gig of ram + Geforce4 video card. Think it runs well?
