Religion = sexist?

For the men that practice religion (or even don't), do you find your religion sexist and oppressive to women?

I personally find mine more oppressive to little boys.


Are you talking about the religion as it's practiced in an everyday sense? or how it's supposed to be practiced? or how it's officially delivered (like in a church)?

Well, religion itself isn't sexist, I'd say the practice of religion creates sexism.

Nah, not really...

there may be a few "sexist" elements in all religions, but I wouldn't just label it as sexist in general. Perhaps it's more of 'preference' for certain roles since traditional times, or traditional rules.

Although I hear a woman was ordained a Catholic priest here in Canada. In Victoria, BC, I think. Can't remember.

Yes. There were nine women unofficially ordained in Ottawa recently, one of them being Canadian. The Vatican does not recognize it; they may be excommunicated.

I can't say I would respect the church more should they permit female priests. Nearly the contrary.

the religion of my youth is very sexist to women. but it has cleverly molded and adapted to our current societal expectations. how convenient. -_-

The religion I was raised in was created by men for the benefit of men....like most all of them.

I rejected religion/mythology a long time ago.
