Chinese firms acquiring Western/Korean companies

For one, it's a natural phase as China is such a large country anyway. Secondly, half the companies they acquire are either second tier or parts that are now considered as commodities. Here is a short list of what Chinese companies have acquired/want to acquire or have nibbled at:

1. Ssangyong Motors -> SAIC bought a 48.9% in it.
2. IBM PCs & Notebooks -> Lenovo (formerly Legend)
3. MG Rover -> SAIC (deal is off and MG bankrupt but SAIC
wants its Powertrain a subs. of MG Rover as well as Geely
and Nanjing Auto wanting a piece).
4. Uncoal -> COSNOC or something (State owned Chinese
power firm making a bid for it).
5. Maytag (owns Hoover brand) -> Haier.
6. Siemens AG Mobile -> Benq (Taiwan)
7. Alcatel Mobile (France) -> TCL (though its now making a
loss).
8. Thomson TVs & RCA -> TCL (also losses here).
9. Hydis Displays (Korea) -> BOE Electronics.
10. Philips low end plasma and all of the monitor segment ->
BOE.

Korea newspapers regularly run some report about the fear of Chinese companies dilluting their niche market due to technology advancements and lower prices whilst those damn Western nations just have a dose of anti-Chinese/Asian fear.

I mean as I said again, these are merely lower class companies or the in the case of well known ones, they are just off loading unprofitable and low profit segments anyway. In fact, if anything, the companies are extremely fortunate to find a sucker in Chinese companies for buying it (e.g. IBM).

Damn Western press getting all xenophobic about a so called "Second Japanese economy evasion", can't they just back off and at least let the Chinese run some low profit markets?

Personally, I don't see much benefit in Chinese firms acquiring any of these assets. As China is quickly becoming a large market, why not spend this $$$ and develop and nuture technology ripe for their own market?

Re: Chinese firms acquiring Western/Korean companies

Despite all the Western press about anti-China sentiment in Korea, I think there's not that much really there; after all, for example, the head of Hyundai's China division is a Korean-Chinese guy himself, sent over from Korea by the head office. Can someone actually in Korea say more?

yellow peril syndrome.

as for Maytag, their investment bankers tried to sell them to both Samsung and LG of south korea, and both companies said they can marginalize Maytag without buying it.
