The NEED for SPEED...

yeah, i wanna know...
who actually obeys the speeding signs...
the maximum speed limit on the highway here
is like 65 mph... sometimes 55...
but i've driven as fast as 80mph...
and while i've gotten tickets
for other frivilous things...
like parking tickets, one of my lights being out...
accidently going thru a red light, etc, etc...
i've NEVER gotten a speeding ticket...
*knocks on wood*...

so like yeah, i just wanna know your story...
like how fast were you going, if you
did ever get a speeding ticket...
whats the fastest you've driven
without getting caught and such...
and blah, blah, blah...

me, i admit...
i just tend to drive a little faster just cuz...
sometimes i'd much prefer to
go with the flow and
same speed as the majority on the road
as opposed to being stuck behind someone...
whose following the actual speed sign...

Re: The NEED for SPEED...

I go on average 65 mph. If you don't like how fast i drive, go around.

Fastest, 110, we pegged my 2002 Corolla going back from norcal on the 101.

Re: The NEED for SPEED...

The present highway speed limit (65) is about 20 mph too slow, IMHO. When traffic allows, I tend to cruise on the freeway around 80-85 mph.

I learned the hard way (twice) that 85 mph on the freeway is the fastest you can be caught driving and still get traffic school, at least in the two places I got tickets.=P First ticket I was caught going approximately 92-93 mph in a 65 mph zone. Second ticket I was caught going 97 mph in a 70 mph zone. No traffic school allowed either time. Sucks. Because of that, even now that I'm protected by a ValentineOne, I rarely exceed 90 mph unless I'm on a long drive and everyone's driving fast.

Fastest I've ever driven was an indicated 132 mph on some desolate road out to Arizona. I'm sure there's lots of speedo error at that speed so it's probably somewhat less. Fastest I've ever been as a passenger was when my friend took my old car to an indicated 150+ on the 15N towards Vegas. Again, I think there's about 10 mph of speedo error at that speed.

Speed is fun so long as you avoid mixing extreme speed with significantly slower traffic, drive defensively (gotta look out for the slower, oblivious cars that love to change lanes right in front of you) and keep the rubber side down.=)

Re: The NEED for SPEED...

^--- As far as I know, that is incorrect. You might get reckless driving pursuant to Cal. Vehicle Code Section 23103, but that's "only" a misdemeanor (possible prison with up to a $1,000 fine). Other driving citations are typically just infractions, meaning there's no criminal record.

Re: The NEED for SPEED...

Maybe driving at 95+ hitting someone is a felony. Isn't the car considered a deadly weapon pass the speed of 95+?

Re: The NEED for SPEED...

i was going about 90 when i got my one and only speeding ticket when i was 18. he pitied me since i was bawling (it was my first ever moving violation and my parents were gonna kill me, hehe) so he cited me for 85 mph instead.

i usually go about 75-85 these days when there's little to no traffic on the road. but on roads like the 5 and 15 (long long stretches of nothing), i go about 90 to 100 mph.

as long as you aren't in the leftest lane, it's all good. :)

The car is always considered a deadly weapon. If you try to run someone over at 5 mph, you've just committed assault with a deadly weapon.=)

You're probably right though that driving reckless and causing injury is a more serious offense. I pretty sure that a DUI which results in bodily injury to others is a felony. I believe I also saw something in the vehicle code regarding driving over 30 mph over the speed limit while intoxicated being a felony as well.

I really hope you're not one of those people that goes in the fast lane and sets cruise at 65mph, that's the most annoying thing ever. That's the very reason why we have "fast lanes" and "slow lanes."

At 65mph, you're branded a slow driver and as a general courtesy you should be more aware and actively move over to the slow lane. now if you're in the slow lane and someone wants to get on your ass, that's their problem.

Re: The NEED for SPEED...

I average 75-85, sometimes hit 90-100 for a minute or less. If I'm passing up cars every second, I usually use caution, checking for cops.

Re: The NEED for SPEED...

I'm usually in the right lane or middle lane, very rarely do I use the left lane. My speed on highways are usually 70-80 mph, occasionally 90ish if I need to go somewhere really fast.

The fastest I've driven is 120 on a 50mph road =D I was redlining 4th gear at that speed...

Re: The NEED for SPEED...

Depends on what music is on and what car I'm driving and if I'm in the mood to speed. I can cruise if I'm listening to some slow music. The Germans, they tend to bring out the speed in me since it's so easy to. The fastest I did was 115mph racing (more like to prod the driver to see what a Porsche can really do). But yeah, I rarely go the speed limit.

I tend not to go over 80mph since the hwy I'm on can be littered with cops, for example one day on the way to work, which is a 15min ride on the highway I saw 6 cops on the side of the road waiting or ticketing. That and there are lots of idiots that cruise at 55mph and just like to wander on into the left lane. At night I drive faster since there are less cars.
