Barbs is on a distinguished road.
well i haven't posted in a while guys cuz i've been busy with work and a break up and all that other attendant bull crap.

i had my wisdom teeth out last wednesday...all four of them to be exact and it's been HORRIBLE. i've been unable to eat anything solid and i've been cooped up, drugged up on percodan (which in a normal situation would be a plus) but which has caused me to experience deep emotional depression. the only person who's been able (or rather the only one i asked) to take care of me has been the aforementioned ex-bf and it's been a horrible mess of things.

i'm just so depressed and feeling overwhelmed with blahness. this really stinks. =(

i had the same thing done summer 2001. my cheeks were poofy for 2 weeks. and i couldn't eat anything solid for almost 2.5 weeks. mine were half grown in.. i lost like 15 lbs during that time. =(

i feel ya. just take the drugs on time and sleep as much as you can.

Been there. Done that. Have the four empty wisdom teeth sockets. Ugh, sorry to hear you got socked with so many crappy things at once. I ditched my painkiller early on and switched to Advil. It helped a lot. All I could do on the medicine was sit around and play drugged out Diablo II.

thanks guys....

i'm trying to wean myself off the painkillers b/c i think i'm beginnign to welcome that feeling. i've been sitting in my room after taking the painkillers and listening to music and spacing out and dozing intermittently and it feels kind of good and numbing. =/

Maybe stop taking Percodan and take Tylenol 3 with codeine (Codeine is less potent as an analgesic than Oxycodone in Percodan) and wean yourself off it, that way, while still being able to cope with the pain.

Percodan got aspirin so if you take it too long it might upset your stomach. Of course it depends on your dose, but typically Percodan has like 325 mg of aspirin. Maybe ask your oral surgeon about swtiching you to Tylenol 3.

It's just kinda odd to me, why he woud give you Percodan instead of Percocet or Tylox. If you've had 4 wisdom teeth extracted and have stitches, it'll take longer time to heal due to the anti-coagulative effects of the aspirin in the Percodan as opposed to Percocet and Tylox which has acetaminophen (unless you're allergic to acetominophin aka tylenol). Then again, I'm no DDS. But it won't hurt to ask if you concerned about the issue of dependency.

i got mine out one side at a time... I also only had 3 wisdom teeth...

First of all, when I demanded that my dentist refer me to an oral surgeon, he didn't and he HAD to do it...and after the first procedure,..he asked me, "Advil or tylenol?

I was :pissed: but i wasn't about to ask for something stronger...sigh. I didn't even really bother taking anything cause urm....otc pain relievers never worked for me they basically take the edge off... However, I guess I lucked out, cause the first set i got out didn't hurt much, just the swelling... But when I went to get my last one out, it took sooo long and that night, I woke up in horrific pain and I've never seen my tonsil swell up that much. ow.

not to mention... i found a lil bit of drill bit in that incision after few weeks...and another few weeks later.....remains of my wisdom teeth, which I had to wiggle out (took three weeks, couldnt' chew on my right side)
Grrr... evil dentist.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that bites... I hate wisdom teeth... they're annoying. Another one of those useless organs that were created so doctors could get payed to remove them. Blech.

yeah the asprin in the percodan upsets my stomach but i've learned to drink some ginger ale and it makes it all better. actually this is so inappropriate but i was so tired of being at home that i went out on sat. and took a percodan instead of drinking (which i can't do) and i had a blast! tylenol 3 does nothing for me anymore; my body has become immune to it.

i'm just concerned about the percodan b/c i cannot function at work with that stuff cuz it just makes me space out. i'm gonna call my dentist tomorrow to see if i can get some better goodies.

thanks tho! and i think he gave me percodan cuz i was a nervous wreck even BEFORE the extraction....i'm hi-strung like that.

I had all four removed and only had to take pain killers for a day. Nitrous is cool. My doctor was really good and everything healed up very nicely. No puffy face after like one nights sleep. At no time did I feel any pain after (or during) the ordeal. I took some anti-infection crap for a couple days and chucked it because it was hard on the stomach.
