so during their interviews for naturalization, some people are asked what they would do if the u.s. ever invaded their homeland. however, those of us who were born here have never been forced to answer or even consider that question.

if the u.s. ever invaded china, i don't know what i would do. i probably would never fight on behalf of the u.s.

Well, my parents left communist Vietnam because they hated the government. If the US invaded Vietnam, hopefully it would be to take down that government and I would have no problem fighting for that cause.

It would depend. If I was an American citizen and the US invaded China or Russia or whatever and it was a flat out war of aggression, I won't fight. I honestly don't want to be caught in a situation every German soldier found himself in when they "crossed the Rubicon" by stepping across the Polish border in '39.

On the other hand, if the US is crossing swords with an aggressor, then yes, I'd fight alongside American troops much like Japanese-Americans did during the Second World World.

i cant even believe some of you consider yes as an option!! defending the US against any country is just unthinkable to me...homeland or not...but then again im not 'american'...have to add even if i was there is no way on earth..ever..whether..never

If the US invaded any country, I probably wouldn't fight unless there was a really good reason. Usually there isn't. If the US invaded Fiji right now, I would not fight. The US has no business in Fiji. The US has done enough to South Pacific brothers and sisters already, covertly (testing nukes on them w/o telling them and such). IF the US invaded China on behalf of Taiwan, I would not fight. Taiwan should be part of China anyway. I'd hope that was a war the US lost because its just helping Taiwan be sore losers anyway and they should let China take it back IMO. If the US invaded Algeria, I wouldn't fight. US bothers people in the Middle East enough, I would not contribute to wreking havoc on Algeria for any reason. In any of those cases I would participate on a humanitarian level, but me with a gun? That's anti-Quaker and anti-human as far as I'm concerned unless the cause is truely just. I have a hard time thinking about the US in a just war...

If I were an American, and if someone invaded the U.S., I would absolutely DEFEND the U.S. But if the U.S. invaded another country (doesn't matter if it was my ancestor's homeland or not), I would definitely condemn such action. Just like how corrupted and fucked-up some politicians can be, the action of a government run by such politicians can be equally fucked-up. It wouldn't make me less American by opposing a fucked-up government that was misleading the American people and in actual fact jeopardizing the safety of innocent people. Even if they think they have some self-righteous reason to invade, it's just wrong. How would they like some other country to invade them for some proclaimed self-righteous reason?

No. I don't think in almost any situation I would defend my country unless it's because there's an obvious and true threat to the nation, like someone actually launched some nuclear missles at San Francisco, and decimated the shit out of it. It would really have to constitute some sort of military action against the U.S. for me to even consider fighting for our country. I just don't believe that wars should be made because politicans say so. I think we should fight, only to defend. Never as an agressor.

But if I was forced into and I couldn't dodge, I would have to just grit my teeth, throw away my values, and serve. Then I'd try my best to get honorable-/-dishonorable discharge, cuz I couldn't care less of what the military thinks of me, and get out. So if the US decided to attack China... unless circumstances say otherwise, I'm not fighting.
