Aussie Answer To Will Hung

Last night I watched the grand final of Australian Idol and to my surprise they had this Chinese guy named Flynn doing a rendition of 'Push Up' by Freestylers. Cringe. It was really stupid. The guy can't sing. It seems the Australian producers have decided to jump on the Will Hung bandwagon and get something similar downunder. This guy also has a recording contract with BMG. Great.

Australia's answer to American Idol's William Hung has plans to release an album.

The singer known only as Flynn made his debut television performance on Australian Idol this week when the Ten Network showed him auditioning for the program.

"I have had a very busy day today," Flynn, who appears to have struck a chord with the public, said.

"I have had 17 interviews. They are asking me why I like singing and what do I feel now."

Despite failing to make it past Idol judges Marcia Hines, Mark Holden and Ian "Dicko" Dickson, the Chinese-born 18-year-old has been on the media trail since appearing on the show and is already talking about releasing an album.

"I didn't expect to get a recording deal before I went to the audition," he said.

"I just wanted to perform. My biggest wish is to be on the stage and to be honest."

He hasn't had any firm offers yet but said it was an option he was interested in pursuing.

And a Flynn album would feature songs such as Every Breath You Take and I Will Always Love You.

"I just hope people would enjoy it," he said.

Auditioning for Idol, Flynn chose to sing a cover of Michael Jackson's 80s hit Beat It.

His amusing performance led the judges to say he had plenty of energy but his voice wasn't strong enough.

"It is an easy song to express your feelings along with dance and I believed people would like it and now it has turned out they have so I am very happy," he said.

"When people see my performance and dance, they really see a strong show so people feel my feelings."

Flynn said he didn't mind being compared to William Hung who failed to make the cut on American Idol but went on to record an album along with video clips and has become a big celebrity.

"I think he is a very funny, very confident, brave guy," Flynn said.

"People feel happy when they see him so that is the point."

When not chasing his pop star ambitions, Flynn works part-time in a pizza restaurant in Melbourne and enjoys playing sports and swimming.

"I sing every day actually," he said.

Australian Idol auditions will air on Ten over the coming weeks with the finals to be held in November.

I don't know about you all, but in thinking about Australian Idol host James Mathison's ignorant actions toward Flynn (see the video), I think that it deserves some sort of mention to those in control of the show.

True but when we whine about it, it just brings it to light even more. The fact that we get so defensive only makes it seem more of an embarrasing truth we'd rather hide in some eyes.
