Planning to buy a car..
Im planning to buy a car on my own... a 05 Infiniti G35 Coupe..
Anyone have some tips for how to bargain or negotiate price? how to handle dealers.. play them against each other... I think the invoice is around 36266 and the MSRP is going to be around 39740 thats without TT + L as far as I know according to edmunds insider reporting on dealer salesmen asians are nicknamed "grinders/chiselers" or something along those lines cuz we are the most stubborn or something with price so help me keep that stereotype going :P

Re: Planning to buy a car..
The only places you have room for bargaining alot is used lots. On new cars the most you can do is tell them to take off extra options you don't want to pay for.

When I was buying my altima, I went to 3 different nissan dealers and the 3 gave me a different price, for the same options. One of the dealers even added an 'optional 2 yrs warranty for the paint' and the total price came up to be something above 20K after taxes. In the end I ended up buying my altima for 16K at some other dealer.

Re: Planning to buy a car..
Yeah it does.. not having full coverage especially in texas would suck.
it wouldn't pay for my laser jammer, police scanner or valentine 1 radar detector though =/ Thing is 05's have a price increase over the 04s by like 3 or 4 gs as well but they have some nice new features too. improved interior, telescoping steering wheel, mp3 player, and some other little things.

Re: Planning to buy a car..
Lucky bastard :)
Anyways, how much do you want to pay? Don't get greedy now.... Subtract a few thousand off that price. The best way to negotiate is to act disinterested. Say you're looking into the G35 and a BMW 325i coupe and not sure which to buy. Test drive it, get the guy's card, get the price and negotiate informally, then walk away telling him you're going to test drive the BMW 325i. Come back the next day or so and say you want to test drive it again, but when he asks you to compare it or what you think of it, give a positive and negative for both cars and sound indecisive. Let him do the talking and let him steer the conversation toward pricing. Usually the salesman will say something along the lines of "What if I can give you the right price, will you buy today?" Then let him throw out a number, then say you're not sure and then throw in a really low number (the figure I just told you to calculate) and say, "I really can't decide, so I would need a really good deal from you to buy today." Then the two of you will go back and forth, and he'll say he'll go to his boss to get the "manager's special" and you'll wait like a jackass in his cubicle for 40min before he comes back several times. You know what, while you're waiting, give the BMW salesman a call and talk to him- no pricing mind you, just some bs about options or something like that. Or whip out the 3-series brochure and thumb through that as you wait. Or walk around the showroom and start talking to other salespeople about the car or something- you want to maintain your image of indeciveness and boredom. You want to get a good price while making the salesman feel like he talked you into it, that he did the work to convince you to buy today instead of tomorrow. |

Re: Planning to buy a car..
use the same technique you did when you bought the '04 G35 coupe?
when i was shoppping for cars last year, the dealer wouldn't even budge on the sticker price with the G35 coupe cuz there was a waiting list on it. |

Re: Planning to buy a car..
Your mom has been here twice the time that you have. I'd let her do the talking... and this time you watch and take notes for next time.

Re: Planning to buy a car..
I wish I could get a G35 coupe...
Have you heard anything about a G35 AWD coupe? With snow and some freezing rain thrown in now and then, I'm limited to FWD and AWD. |
