moreso than men of other ethnicities, it seems to me that asian men are particularly homophobic. and this is particular to asian men. i know plenty of asian women who have gay friends and acquaintances. would you agree with my observation? do you have any gay friends? why is this?

also - if you do have gay friends, are they gay men or lesbian women. is there a group that you are more accepting of? why or why not?

Well, I will say, from hanging around Jamaicans and Trinis, they are about the most homophobic folks around. I have gay friends, like 2 or 3. One is a lesbian and the other two are dudes. I see both lesbians and gays as homosexuals. There's not too much difference really.

umm... frankly, i don't see why there should be a difference between gays and lesbians either. i have an equal amount of both, 6 in all. it's not an issue really, it's not like at any point, "dude, you're lesbian! you shouldn't play paintball!" or "gay people aren't supposed to go see movies...". we have same interests, so w/e.

i'm cool with gay people. like i thought this freind of my friend was gay, and i was cool with him and all, but later on i realized he wasn't....so i guess that doesn't really count...but still had he been gay, i would've still treated him the same.

it's weird, my freinds and i in high school used to use the word gay as in bad or stupid, i don't do that anymore. not because i purposely try to control myself from saying it, it just doesn't happen anymore, which is pretty nice.

edit: I would also like to add, that I would feel uncomfortable with a gay friend, partly because there is always the chance he will, start to "like" you. So, aquaintence is ok, but not so much a friend.

I use to hang out with a gay crew, they did a lot of drugs which I liked!

I meet some other progress queer folks throughout the years. I have yet to have a really close gay friend.

I have had gay freinds but the most homophobic people I ever knew were black men. I am talking about specific people of course, remember I don't know any asian people.

My HK and Taiwan friends always think my Malay friends are gay just cuz it's the habit to stand close while talking, and some body language misinterpretation. But Malays like guys even less than HK guys.

A lot of other SE Asians have told me they get the same thing happening to them with Chinese, Americans, and Aussies, but not usually Europeans or Arabs.

i was homophobic in high school but i met some gays in college and i realized they were just regular guys. got rid of my stereotypes about them in short order. this was also before i viewed asian american activism as something worthwhile.

i haven't met any gay men since college and i only know one lesbian now.
