below the belt attacks

What're some of the below-the-belt attacks and tactics that you've noticed have already emerged, from either side?

- comparisons made by MoveOn.org between Bush and Hitler
- SwiftBoat Veterans for Truth -- the vets in the ads served in Vietnam, but weren't in Kerry's unit and their account have largely been countered as wholly false by those who were.
- Dick Cheney's recent comments: that it's a vote for Bush or there will be another terrorist strike on U.S. soil. And related, bumper stickers that say "Terrorists for Kerry 2004".
- Zell Miller's speech at the RNC, and related backlash against him saying he's high by leftist pundits.

Anything else? Does any of this stuff change your opinion? (This isn't trying to be partisan. I tried to think of stuff from both the right and the left).

Re: below the belt attacks

Yeah, it makes me look down on the people who give free advertising to the whole farce by marching for one team or the other, talking about it in public, watching news about it, or standing in line at the polls to place a bet on their favorite horse in it.

Re: below the belt attacks

I thought the Hitler ad was a submission for MoveOn.org's "send a commerical against Bush" contest, and wasn't necessarily endorced by the organization.

i think kerry wanted to avoid bush-bashing (because it's so easy), but he's realizing that he's got to play it his way because i don't think bush is winning because he's more desirable, i think he's winning because he's more effectively bashing kerry.

Re: below the belt attacks

yell0, why do you say anything that michael moore says? I don't think he's 100% right, but he does raise some pertinent questions that i think are hardly below the belt.

i agree, kerry didn't want to jump on the bush-bashing wagon. I just wonder what he COULD'VE done -- now he's being criticized for not going on the offensive, but had he, he woulda been characterized as a treasonous president-hater. How can the opposition of an incumbent win when fighting such a powerful attack engine as the Republican party?

Re: below the belt attacks

Implying that James R. Bath's name was blacked out of Bush's military records because Bath was connected to someone who was connected to someone who was connected to Bin Laden. Michael Moore, is a borderline conspiracist.
BTW I think that people like Michael Moore are necessary to balance out the popular right-wing lying liars. But I don't believe anything either side says.

Have any pics of this White House book-burning cerimony?
If that's not below the belt, then neither were Zell Miller's remarks.

He was making fun of their mentality/the fact that GW doesn't like to read. That's not below the belt. It's just mean. Below the belt would be if it had basis in reality or was compeltely made up. King George isn't a big reader. Thats true. That different than making something up entirely. "George Bush raped a black woman" is below the belt. Zell Miller's remarks were made up and deliberately misleading. Nobody in their right mind took Dean's comment literally. Lots of folks took Zell's that way however.
