I've done it twice. I was looking forward to it because I got to send some people to jail

Re: Jury Duty

i got called twice but i got exempted both times.

looking back i should've done it. would've been a nice vacation of sort. 9-5 hours, $5 dollars a day, be absent from my job with pay and not have to take personal vacation time, listen to courtroom drama and convict the bad guys.

Re: Jury Duty

Once bitten, twice shy. I served once on a civil lawsuit. The case was all about an old lady suing a department store where she slipped and hurt herself while trying to sit on a recliner chair. I spent 5 days there waiting for people who had nothing better to do made their decisions. We gave the old lady some money, as the judge told us the lawyers were trying to settle anyway.

I tried to get out when possible now that I get paid by consulting hours. I know people who faked accents and pulled the 'no Engrand' thing, and pretty much lied their way out of it. Not that I condone it, but I can understand where they were coming from.

Called, didn't serve, got struck from a civil and a criminal case, most likely since I had green hair at the time. I'd like to serve once just to experience it.

Re: Jury Duty

i got called 3 times, but never went for 2 times, but they told me i couldnt use the "i dont understand english" excuse for the last one, so i had to go. they found me out thru the voter registration--????? so i went in.

my experience went like this (for people who wonder what its like)- they call you into a room with about 90 people. they only need 12 plus 1 alternate. they had 2 pools of 30 which they called you out of. so i sat there waiting for them to call me. i was getting sweaty cause its kinda like a lotto, but i got called out first go round for the 30. now they whittle it down to 13- 12 jurors + 1 alternate. so they called people and they were questioned by the prosecution and then the defense and they were dismissed from there. the defendant was a crack cocaine dealer and so a lot of the jurors were asked if they could give a fair verdict. surprisingly almost half of them, including a chinese lady said they had family members involved with drugs/coke so they couldnt give a fair verdict and were dismissed. i think most of them were bs'ing just to get out of it. i was thinking just to get out of it, i could tell the judge the defendant was my crack dealer or something. i honestly wasnt up for it. deciding a mans fate like that is just too much for me. getting to the end. now i was really sweating cause they were running out of potential jurors, but they got them all before my name was called. all in all, it wasnt that bad, but i was pretty hungry and they didnt have much to eat down there. also, i only got paid $25.

Re: Jury Duty

I don't look forward to jury duty.

I haven't been called in, yet.

It's funny how this poll has the opposite result of the one in the article.

I was just thinking that same thing.

Having to go is just a pain. And has anybody else noticed the large percentages of people of color on jury duty? The White people were an obvious minority each time I've gone, but that doesn't reflect the demographics.

Also, if you don't work a job where they're required to pay you, it really bites because you lose the income.

Re: Jury Duty

I wouldn't mind being on jury duty once in my life time, but I imagine it could be a pain too.
