some former classmates of mine made one of these as a senior project. i don't remember if it ever worked. but the version they worked on was costly. and VERY dangerous. i saw some nice large blue open air arcs while they were discharging some of the components. and they discharged the components every few minutes while i was there.

u could make a giant tesla coil. then u could get light out of an unconnected fluorescent light bulb.

oh yeah, if ur railgun is powerful enuf and u actually fire it into the air, u have to get it federally approved since the object might end up in space.

I've done some research on railgun builds.

I am not smart enough to handle vast amounts of stored electricity. I would very likely kill myself. I'm going to have to say no, sadly.

what about building one of those r/c helicopters and then modding it to include a small wireless camera? it's not destructive, but it's still cool. or maybe get one of the larger ones and add both a camera *and* a claw that holds a water balloon? then you can fly around the neighborhood dropping water balloons on people when they last expect it. or pieces of sodium metal in people's pools.
