What are some good Italian movies?

I'll be headed over to italia next year so I'm starting to learn italian, which shouldn't be so bad since I'm coming off of some spanish courses. But I'm learning it by myself and I need to hear the language- movies are a good way for me to pick up on pronounciation and listening comprehension. So what movies do you recommend that are in italian?

"Cinema Paradiso" and "Life Is Beautiful." I really love the former one. The end of that movie is really moving. I saw the latter on the Tokyo-LA flight some years ago. I don't remember much about it. All I know is that a lead actor won an Oscar from that film.

Don't use Roberto Begnini as the standard for good Italian movies, that's all I gotta say.

Check out classic Italian films by Federico Fellini such as 8 1/2, La Dolce Vita and Michaelango Antonioni (L'Avventura, L'Eclisse).

Re: What are some good Italian movies?

i think i've only watched three Italian films - Il Postino (The Postman) and the more recent Io Non Ho Paura (I'm Not Scared) and La Finestra Di Fronte (Facing Windows). i wasn't really impressed by the first two, they're alright, but the third one is much better.
