Sick of "minorities" whining about Kerry's campaign being "too white"

There's been a lot of buzz in the media, in particular from the black and Latino constituencies, over the last few weeks about how Kerry's campaign is too "white." I'm basically sick of hearing people play the race card, and here's my reaction to the things I'm hearing.

1. First of all, we're still relatively early in the campaign. I DO want
to see some racial diversity in his inner circle eventually, in part
because it's these people who become appointees if (God willing) Kerry
wins. But even supposing his closest aides right now were all white
(which even the Times article acknowledges is not the case), I don't really give
a damn. They're his friends, and people are allowed to have whatever
friends they want. I'm sure Kerry didn't pick his friends for their race,
and he shouldn't have to include a token black person right now just for
the sake of having a diverse group of advisers. Of course, if and when he
becomes the president, I think that kind of thing matters more, because
president is more directly responsible to the people than a candidate.

2. It's one thing to stand up for your rights when you're wronged, and
another to always be playing the race card to guilt people into doing
things (and this is something that Asian Americans, native Americans and white people are pretty good about not doing). I find that is utterly unacceptable.

Exactly. And to quote an email from a friend, "Why
should race determine your outlook on life and whether
you make sound decisions for policy? I thought
that the ideal of liberalism was Clinton: 'I feel your
pain.'"

No way. Kerry shot Charlies. He might have come back thinking the war was wrong, but he does not feel our pain.

How does the fact that he shot Charlie have anything to do with whether or not he feels our pain? What American didn't shoot at Charlie in Nam? I'm not Charlie, and neither is anyone else in this country.

It has everything to do with the fact that I think the war in Vietnam was wrong and won't be voting for any veteran of that war. When bums come up begging for money, telling me they're a Vietnam vet I don't give them money. When my dad gets old and can't fight back, I'll kick his ass, too.

Kerry should learn the great chemistry that Clinton had with minorities.

I have no problem with Kerry, he is much better than the alternative (Bush). Who would know less about a minority's struggle than that moron with a silver spoon up his ass.

As opposed to Kerry, who has the same educational background and rich upbringing as Bush?

I know that he does, but at least his political views are concentrated on getting the economy out of the toilet.
