Would you buy a hybrid car?

Would you buy a hybrid car or spend the extra loot you would save by buying the gas-powered version loading up on options?

And for those that don't know... hybrids aren't just the dinky 56hp subcompacts. Honda is coming out with a hybrid Accord that will get more power than the V6 with the fuel economy of a civic (30-38mpg). Lexus is coming out with a hybrid RX330 SUV that supposedly gets "V8 performance with V6 fuel economy". Toyota and Ford also have hybrids coming out soon.

I would seriously consider a hybrid as long as it the same power output or greater compared to its gas-powered counterpart. It would be cool to have a ~500 mi range on a full tank of gas (est. using Honda Accord: 30mpg * 17 gal tank). Right now, I'm getting around 220 miles/tank... which is just pathetic.

Yes, I would buy a hybrid. F*cking 50mpg would do me and the world a lotta good. I'll take my gas guzzling turbocharged cars to the track and shred tires there. Hybrids will save me a whole lotta dough for mods and repairs.

Re: Would you buy a hybrid car?

so wait...

if i had a glass of water and ice cubes in it...

when the ice cubes melt... would the water overflow?

uhmm... no. the ice displaces the water so when it melts, the water level never changes.

how can this be true for the polar ice caps melting and drowning the fuck outta fiji?

Last I watched the news, sea levels are rising.

EDIT:
Did some reading just for kicks. Keep in mind that the water is also heating up due to global warming. Water expands causing the level to go up. Ice caps melt, water heats up, water expands, sea levels goes up...and yes, Fiji fucking drowns.

Re: Would you buy a hybrid car?

Actually the gross polluters that the US allows roaming around cause more pollution than any of these new SUV's today.

Re: Would you buy a hybrid car?

I would pick one up if it's the Toyota Volta. 402HP. 40mpg, and I believe it is also mid-engined.

the ice caps hold water. when they melt water gets out and raises the sea level. Pacific nations like Tuvalu are already feeling the effects with flooding and other natural disaters more than ever before. the coasts are shirnking. Maldives is also hghly at risk. just about every major scientist knows and recognizes it is happening.

Re: Would you buy a hybrid car?

i was going to get one..but then those hybrid cars from honda or toyota..they are 100% made in japan..if there's a problem...i don't know if the americans can fix it...even if they can, they would probably charge you an astronomical fee for it since those are special workers..

There's a warranty with these cars. You should be covered. If you drive a lot or want more years tacked on...go for an extended. Also, find yourself a damn good dealership with an great track record on service. There's a reason why some of these mechanics are actually trained. Granted the majority of mechanics I encounter tend to be real idiots (even WITH American cars). Reason why I do most of my own work on my cars.

I had concerns about repairs, too, until I remembered that my Japanese-made car hasn't yet been in the shop for mechanical repairs although it's almost 14 years old.

Think the hybrid is going to be my next car. A friend who owns the Prius loves it.

You're complaining about 93 octane?

I wish we had 93 octane on the west coast. No. We have to deal with 91 octane.

I miss boosting @ 19lbs.

if your glass of water had ice cubes in it, the water would not overflow only if the ice cubes were completely submerged. If you had a glass of water filled to the top, as well as ice that stuck out over the top it would overflow when all the ice melts.

The polar ice caps also occupy upward space. If they melt, sea level rises.
