Trust me, A&F did too much research. They used the Chinese characters of the name of a stigmatic person in Chinese history on their shirts of whom caused a lot of embarassment for the Chinese due to betrayal. Of the bazillion Chinese names out there, they could've picked a name belonging to someone with a good reputation wouldn't you think? Anyone else besides me know this info? If not, here you go Lee Hong Zhang. I did a search on his name and this is what I got -shame

Yo that's fucked up. A&F is really milking this aren't they? I wonder if they strategically placed those types of shirts in areas with high asian population? You know LA, SF, NY, Boston, Chicago etc etc.

to be honest, unless i was already very rich and i didn't care, i wouldn't start a business that caters only to asian americans in this country. the market is too small. if i start a business, i'm trying to make a profit, not promote a sociological ideal. however, if i was in charge of a marketting firm, i would try to include asian americans in my ads.

these exist their marketed toward asians by Jerry from Kyosho racing. Ever heard of a company called Pacific Rim it sells girl racer clothing for asian femeales. pacific rim

Asian americans are too small a market to sell cloths too. There what a million of us or so. Clothing manufacturing is all about making as much stuff and selling it as quickly as possible before it goes out of style.

I completely forgot to mention about those tshirt. that tshirt precede the Wok-n-Bowl and Wong brothers. Thanks boycott for reminding me of that tshirt. That shirt cause a lot of Chinese people to boycott the first round demanding an apology from A&F. I don't think they ever got it.

Yeah, thats exactly what I'm trying to say!!! Jeeze, boycott, you gotta realize that Asians are like.... SUCH a small percentage of American citizens that targeting them would KILL businesses. I agree that it would be nice for there to be a few Asian models here and there in ads, but there aren't even that many Asian models out there to PUT in ads. To be a model, you don't even have to be pretty. You just need to be tall (5' 8" at the very LEAST), skinny, and have a symmetrical face. There's not a lot of Asians who fit into these categories... so don't think it's because white people think Asians are ugly.

well you also can't exactly use white people's standards of beauty to decide what would be a good looking asian person. the modelling industry in this country is designed to cater to white people's tastes. i may not know an awful lot about how an advertising firm functions, but i would like to think that if i was in control of one, i wouldn't be opposed to putting asian models in my ads even if they are a little shorter than industry standards.

If that were true about the physical characteristics of asians why are there so many asian models used in luxury brands and trendier urban brands?

I think its because asians as a whole dont command a huge share of the mainstream label market(yeah we're label whores and super pretentious) as they do with the luxury goods market. "Asia Exclusive" has become a catch phrase in the fashion market.

EDIT: hehehe, i mean these things in a very general sense. =x dont fret, kids. just saying... market isnt as big for asian models. if the designer or whoever is trying to achieve a certain look... let's say they look through the huge "model directory" ...chances are, they'll find that look with somebody who's not asian... based on like, numbers, you know? but i find it admirable that a lot of companies are including a few models from every spectrum of skin colors. :)
