Very impressive. How long does it take you to do one of these?

thanks!!!
and wellz, i think it more or less depends on the detail of it all. Like the project with the trees, rocks and grass.. that was a pain to do.. cuz like i had to weave in each individual blade of grass... and while it was only about 3 feet in height.. it took me about 4 months to complete.. working on it every day..

and at the moment.. i'm working on a project thats 4'10" in height and same in width.. this is my largest project i've ever done.. i started working on it at the start of my summer.. and err... i haven't been really dedicated to it every day.. but like.. i'm hoping that i'll be finished by the end of the year tho..

Ayers is on a distinguished road.
Amazing! :)

Out of curiosity (and since I'm totally clueless on the process), how does one go about making a tapestry? On a loom? and is this a hobby? business? both?

Thank you. I own a tapestry loom. And well, its kinda like a side hobby. I'm attending grad school.. concentrating in the fiber arts.. but i'm more there to learn than to actually make a career out of it... And wellz its kinda hard to explain how the process goes. But just think weaving as analogous to painting. The warp is the vertical white threads that hold the weft together. Its like the skeletal part of the tapestry. The warp is my canvas.. and the weft-- the colored threads i weave is my paint. Here are some illustrations of the preperation...

yeah, preparing can be a long process, that can be hard on your hands... It can take me 2 full days just to warp up my loom. And wellz i got introduced to it when i attended Jersey City State College during my junior year. I took Intro to tapestry weaving... and gee.. i forget the name of the professor. But anyways, it's just something that i instantly feel in love with. I remember on the weekends.. i would end up going to school really early in the morning... and i would leave after midnight after the school had closed their gates... and i would have to hop on top of the phone booth.. and push myself over the fence in order to leave the campus to get to my bus... I took advanced weaving in my senior year..

and i remember after i graduated.. i built my homemade loom... just a simple basic loom, that looked like a picture frame... but i've gotten more advanced.. and about 2 summers ago.. i invested in 2000$ tapestry loom that i own now...

Anyways, the basic of weaving isn't really all that difficult. It's really all a matter of going under and over the alternate threads... elementary school children can learn the very basics of it... but i think it all becomes more advanced when it comes to the concept of your design, and learning the different methods and techniques that go along with it to get different shading effects and what not... And even when you do get more advanced.. its still not all that difficult to learn... i think when it comes to tapestry weaving.. it has to do more with having A LOT of patience...

hehe.. you know what..
I did that during my senior year. The art of tapestry making wasn't like a popular class that a whole lot of ppl registered for in my school. And there was this one girl that needed to take it... but not enough ppl registered for it... so they dropped the class.. So, the girl took it as an independant study course.. and i ended up teaching her... Cool, huh?!!

Who knows where my schooling is gonna lead me...
