i wasn't looking at it that broadly. more like, within the scope of being able to freely pick and choose your mate

Re: Your experiences with sexism with Asian men

Some of my older male relatives are very chauvanistic. They don't like me because I won't respect to the ridiculous amount of authority the think they have over me.

i'm from Asia and i definitely think men in Asia are more sexist than men in America. there's reason to believe that at least some of that carried over to Asian American men, unless they are very Americanised.

but then again, i think women in Asia are also more sexist than women in America. you have no idea how many female friends i know in HK who want to stop working when they get married. people in Asia just have concepts of gender roles that are more clearly defined.

Re: Your experiences with sexism with Asian men

from what I see, the only way Asian women can get respect is how Asian guys get respect...by rising into power and money.

Since power and money for the most part is controlled by men, its highly unlikely that Women can take the positions of those men.

What are some of your gripes and experiences with sexism of Asian men.

Also, for the Asian men reading this thread please keep in mind that when I say "Asian men", I am not saying all Asian men per se just the Asian men who has perpetuated the stereotype of being a wife beater and what not.
Asian men or Asian American men? Asian American men - I don't see them exihibiting sexism any different than other [insert race]-American men. In real life, that is. On internet forums, it's a whole different story. Asian men - i don't know any other than older family members, and even then, I don't see them exhibit much (if any) sexism.

Asian American men are originated from the Asian culture. I guess the question really is -- is the Asian culture any more/less/equally sexist as any other culture?

I'm sorry... maybe i'm not understanding, but are you arguing that it's the woman's fault for 'buying into their gender roles and ideals of beauty'? You know these are the same gender roles and beauty myths that are placed upon women by this male-dominated, male-empowered society.

you know... free will as in a woman's ability to make choices outside of what culture or society wants of her? the choice to rebel? The same free will that men take for granted. I didn't think this was such an ambiguous term in this context.
