words you used to say incorrectly

when you were younger, were there any words that you pronounced incorrectly just because your parents pronounced them that way?

here is my list (i was such a dork!):

1) jewlery --> jewelry (from mom)

2) hamboogers --> hamburgers (from dad - "let's go eat mcdonald's hamboogers" - i love my dad)

3) phoe hoe --> pho hoa (from mom, dad, family friends)

k, can't think of anymore.

Re: words you used to say incorrectly

well, not always cuz of my parents:

1. i used to pronounce "C" as "She" b/c my mom pronounced it that way.

2. used to say th's as z's or as s's.

3. used to say "o's" instead of "l's" whenever words ended with an "l." was only able to correct that after years of merciless taunting. But it's ok, i'll get back at my friends by sleeping w/ their future wives.

I think I still do 3. to some extent, cuz I have to make a conscious effort to rol-l my l-l's, otherwise, i'd end up saying ro' instead of rolllllllllllllll.

It's because your teachers lied to you about the proper way to pronounce or spell words. cast away the postcolonial british slave mentality! americanize your english. ;) we're all brothers on this continent. *sheds a tear*

Re: words you used to say incorrectly

I often pronounce "nuclear" ŕ la George W.

I used to think that "sepia" was "seh-pee-uh" instead of the correct "see-pee-uh."

I still think my way sounds nicer.

Edit: Neither really has anything to do with my parents' pronunciation of anything.

Re: words you used to say incorrectly

"Won, tu, tree" for "one, two, three" (mommy's fault)
"flim" for "film" (mommy's fault)
"terApee" for "therapy" (mommy's fault)
"cata" for "catarrh" (mommy's fault)
"Robbutt" for "Robert" (she did it again)

I pretty much had her accent, but by pre-school, I usually pronounced things that are pronounced differently between accents the Yankee way, except for those on the list.
