Talking Kissing in Kindergarten

OK, I put my 5 year old son is in a private school to get him a jump start on his education. LOL, academics were not the only thing jump started!

At the parent-teacher conference my wife attended, we learned he was very bright, top quartile, friendly with everyone including the girls. Then the teacher mentions the boys and girls are kissing each other -- ON THE LIPS! My wife then went to ask my son about it and he says, "Oh, it happens all the time." LMAO! We knew my son and a couple of his friends had paired up, as in boyfriend/girlfriend but we didn't know kissing was involved.

Actually, this would be his third girlfriend. His first was at 5 months old (awww, they kissed on the lips at 1yr old). At this school he got another but she moved away (my son said he misses her :() but he soon met a new girl and now sits with her all the time.

ROFL, I think it is soooooooo cute. My wife is a little more concerned about catching germs and overzealous sexual harassment rules. I said I won't encourage it but the last thing I want is to discourage it and make the kids think there is something wrong going on. Heck, my wife and I kiss all the time and we kiss all the kids when we tuck them in.

I love it. Look, I can now prove to my crazy parents that you can do well in academics and still have a social life :D

Well, I must take some credit in that I did not want him to be the shy quiet kid I grew up to 10 as. I think all kids are naturally outgoing, I just encouraged him to be friendly and play with others including girls. He's not clichish either, he'll talk to complete strangers.

(Funny, his best friend is Vietnamese but he thinks girls are icky. His parents are more traditional. My son's other friend has been in a relationship with another girl for over 1 year now, not bad that's 20% of his life LOL)

This was too funny not to share. So what are your thoughts on dating young? Gonna let your kids do it?

Re: Kissing in Kindergarten

i think it's cute when little
kids pair up. like those
posters they have in hallmark.

i had a boyfriend in preschool.
his name was simon. that's all
i remember. i have him on home
video tapes at my birthday party
and stuff.

i don't have kids yet, so i dunno
how i'd feel about dating young.

Re: Kissing in Kindergarten

Overzealous sexual harassment rules are no joke.

When someone says something smells, one of my mother's friend has a habit of telling the person "Wash your arse," or if they are a female, "Clean your twat."

Unfortunately, the kindergartener must have picked that up. His classmate was holding her nose and the kid decided to say the latter. Not only was he suspended, but the principal wanted him to speak to the school shrink about sexual harassment.

After his behavior began to change, his mother finally decided to put him into public school a couple of months later, still unsure if he really understood what got him into trouble.

A kid in my own family, just a couple of months older, was sitting next to a girl who liked to tease him during class. One day in class she grabbed his pencil and threw it on the floor. I guess taking that as the last straw, to get back at her he aimed to hit her on the arm that was resting on her leg, but she moved it and so he got her thigh.

He didn't lie about what happened, so it isn't like the adults were misunderstanding what occurred. The girl and the fellow classmates even told the same story. The teacher actually saw the entire event take place. However, I think the kid had a talk about inappropriately touching girls and they called in the parents for a couple of meetings to talk about which course of disciplinary action to take from there. Again, this is not because of the hitting, but because he touched her thigh.

The way they were treating the kid, you would have thought there was more to the story. That the teacher saw something sick happen, but she didn't.

It’s a change of times. When I was starting kindergarten, the boys actually grouped together and chased us for a kiss. By the end of the year, the girls were doing likewise (Kisses weren’t on the lips, though.).

I don’t remember there being any major punishment, other than perhaps cutting recess short or made to sit-down. We certainly weren’t treated as molesters.

Anyhow, after watching these events and hearing stories on TV, I wouldn’t encourage your son to kiss the girls. That and because, like your wife, I’m a germ freak.

Re: Kissing in Kindergarten

Receiving an unwanted kiss may constituted battery (among other things) here in England. Strange, but true.

Re: Kissing in Kindergarten

i don't think that's so strange. An unwanted kiss is an unwelcome sexual advance, and I think those should be punished. I mean it's not like a kiss is completely harmless; what if the kisser had herpes and kissed someone smack on the mouth?

Tee hee! Run, catch, kiss.

Dude, my dad's like, "Don't get into any of these one-on-one relationships until you get out of college." My grandparents are like that, too. "Look at your cousin, she's graduated from college, and look, she's found a nice boy to be with."

Psh.

Re: Kissing in Kindergarten

times have changed. i had a bf in 2nd grade and once, when we both purposely dropped our crayons under the table so that we could retrieve them and kiss, our teacher caught us, sent us to the principal's office, and called a parent-teacher conference.

i remember this quite clearly - i had to explain the entire situation to my mom, dad, grandmother, and grandfather. i just lied and said i dropped my crayon and he kissed me for some reason.

i would not want my kid kissing a bunch of people in school. little kids are dirty. mine wouldn't be. but other little kids. i think proud_jook_sing's wife is right to be concerned about germs.

Well for the tuition we are paying, I think all the kids are extremely well cared for and the kids know their hygiene pretty well.

Wow, Kasia that teacher was a hard ass or a total prude. I would have given her a real hard time for making the kids think kissing was this horrible thing. Of course the average FOBBY parent would have gone nuts too.

I love to make fun of FOBBY parents for their ridiculous rules (like mine). No dating until after college ROFL. Do they know how much harder it is to meet people out of school? I give them total hell about it before they nerdify more of their kids.

my thoughts exactly. incidentally, has anyone else found that the only booger-eating kids they've encountered have been white? that has been the case for me, and i've always been curious about the reason behind that.
