First chinese female astronaut in space - Major Liu Yang, 33

PLA/AF Major Liu Yang, 33, fighter pilot became china's and the world's first chinese woman to go into space on Saturday, 2012, June 16th. She will be travelling with two other astronauts Jing Haipeng and Liu Wangon on China's Shenzhou 9 capsule powered by a Long March Rocket. The spacecraft was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in the Gobi Desert at 6:47pm. On this 13 day space mission which includes docking with the Tiangong (Heavenly Palace) 1 module Liu Yang will be in charge of the biological/medical experiments. Liu Yang joined the PLA in 1997 and has 1680 hours of flight time logged. She was a deputy flight director for the PLA Air Force before she was recruited in 2010 May for the chinese space program.
