Arrow Asians should avoid buying Apple

Asians should avoid/boycott Apple and choose to instead purchase their asian company counterparts.

reason 1. Nato in the backdrop
Unlike during the Vietnam war, when the Pentagon extensively sourced its procurement from Asia, the Bush-Cheney team sought to give US entities a monopoly over the supply of the items needed, even items as militarily inconsequential as toothpaste. The result of such an autarchic policy has been a big increase in spending, with the US alone spending more than a trillion dollars in its wars with Iraq and Afghanistan. Indeed, we have seen this use of the state machinery to block competition across several sectors. The EU, for example, has banned Indian pharmaceuticals from its market, despite the low cost and high quality of medicines produced in India. Just now, the EU has banned Samsung hi-tech products. A time will come when Asia bans German cars and French defense equipment in retaliation for the frequent bans on Asian products on specious grounds. The US and the EU cannot protect their way out of economic trouble. They need to give their citizens access to the benefits of a global market, rather than break every canon that they have been preaching for decades. As for NATO, it will soon become clear that while it may be possible to defeat a ramshackle force with the massive use of airpower, that may not translate into monopoly privileges over Libyan oil reserves. Should China or India come up with better terms than Italian or French companies, the people of Libya will ensure that their government act in a way that protects their interests, rather than only those of NATO. The use of military power for commercial advantage ought to have vanished when the 19th century did. Its reappearance in Iraq and Libya is a worrisome sign that NATO has not learnt the lessons of history.

Former German leader calls for "United States of Europe", This article supports 'Nato Again!"Topic- Attn: Asians

BERLIN (Reuters) - Former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder on Sunday called for the creation of a "United States of Europe," saying the bloc needed a common government to avoid future economic crises.

Schroeder, a Social Democrat who ran the country from 1998 to 2005, said in an interview with Der Spiegel that European Union leaders were wrong to expect the euro to drive the bloc on its own.

"The current crisis makes it relentlessly clear that we cannot have a common currency zone without a common fiscal, economic and social policy," Schroeder said.

He added: "We will have to give up national sovereignty."

"From the European Commission, we should make a government which would be supervised by the European Parliament. And that means the United States of Europe."

Schroeder, who nurtured a close relationship with France during his leadership, welcomed an initiative launched by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy to move toward a fiscal union in 2012.

Their proposal, which would mean giving up sovereignty over budgetary policies with the aim to shore up the 17-nation currency union, has received a lukewarm response from other euro zone countries.

"Germany and France have sent a strong signal with the plan for a European economic government, if it is meant seriously and receives suitable authority such as a European finance minister," Schroeder said.

"That is the correct way forward and the precondition for the correct funding -- euro bonds," he said.

Germany, which enjoys lower costs for issuing debt than its single currency partners, has led resistance to joint euro-denominated bonds.

"It is a huge bond market -- speculators would no longer harbor hopes of splitting it up," Schroeder said.

In order to initiate these changes, Schroeder said EU member states would have to return to the negotiating table and hammer out a new treaty to replace the one agreed in Lisbon that currently serves as the bloc's institutional framework.

"In the crisis lies a real opportunity to achieve a political union in Europe," he said.

Schroeder, who says the EU can only respond to growing competition with the United States and Asia by being fully united, has long pointed to Britain as a hurdle to further EU integration.

"Great Britain causes the greatest problems. (It is) not in the euro but the British nevertheless always want to participate when it comes to designing a European economic area," he said. "That doesn't work."

Re: Asians should avoid buying Apple

I ve heard labor complaints against the chinese factory
that makes Apples Ipads/Iphones which alleges that assembly
line workers are paid very little and work under very harsh
working conditions. However, to be fair - I've heard the
same complaints made against factories that make
Microsoft's mouse/keyboard.

Re: Asians should avoid buying Apple

With respects to complaints about how Apple's Taiwanese Subcontractor Foxconn Factories in China are abusing working, WSJ Loretta Chao reported that China's Vice Premier Li Keqiang told Apple CEO Tim Cook on Tuesday, March 27th 2012, at a meeting at Zhongnanhai that China believes it isn't China's responsibility to protect worker's rights and that it is Apple's responsibility to manage how its Taiwanese subcontractor Foxconn in China treats and cares for its workers. Cook was in China to see if he could pressure the Chinese Courts to extend Apple's intellectual property rights for the Ipad which due to a legal snafu by Apple lawyers is currently secured/owned in China by a Hong Kong company and not Apple.

Re: Asians should avoid buying Apple

from what i've read so far: China has promised to look into protecting Apple's Intellectual Property rights. Apple's Cook has visited it's subcontractor's factories in China (HK subsidary of Foxconn of Taiwan) and there was a report released on labor abuses at the Apple factory. Quickly afterwards there was a new item saying how the Apple factories will pay their employees more and attempt to address other labor abuse. I don't know how much of this is true since if China's labor laws were abused then what type of punishment would Foxconn and its management faced? The reported response of VP Li Keqiang suggested that China's government didn't believe that any labor laws were broken and that Apple's subcontractor's labor problems was a public relations and an internal company affair. Reports I've read previously is that Apple's IP issue with IPod/Ipad IP rights was a loophole in the contracts/legal agreements missed by Apple's lawyers and that Apple doesnt own the IP right in China - could Apple have other IP issues in China?

Re: Asians should avoid buying Apple

Apple is too much a part of mutual funds to avoid it. After its stock split, it was too enticing to avoid.
