There are people who just live life with fullest meaning. It happens with the film personalities all over the world that they long for a highly respective honor. It’s a dream for them to achieve. And lucky ones get it due to their performances. Yes, I’m talking about Oscar Statue. It is officially known as Academy Award of Merit.
This award shows highest achievement in filmmaking. It was the year 1927 when this prestigious award born out of the discussion about honoring outstanding achievements in film production. Cedric Gibbons, chief art director MGM designed the statue.
The weight of the trophy is of 8½ pounds and the height is 13½ inches. The statue stands on the film reel. It attributes five spokes. They signify five branches of the Academy such as actors, producers, directors, writers and technicians. R. S. Owens & Company is the manufacturer of this in Chicago.
In the beginning, the statue was made up of gold plated solid bronze and then finally it was of 24 carats gold. Emil Jannings was the first recipient of this award. He achieved the award for the best actor in ‘The Last Command’ and ‘The Way of All Flesh’ in 1929.
Recently, on February 26, 2012 the 84th Academy Awards held honoring 25 regular categories at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood and Highland Center. It’s a matter of pride and proud to have this one.
