ROME -- Italian soccer club Perugia has cut ties with South Korea's Ahn Jung-hwan after he scored the overtime goal that knocked Italy out of the World Cup, Perugia's chairman said in media reports Wednesday.

"That gentleman will never set foot in Perugia again," Luciano Gaucci told sports' daily La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Italy has been furious about Tuesday's 2-1 loss to South Korea, accusing the referee and soccer's ruling body FIFA of fixing the match.

Back home, the Italian media were livid.

What a bunch of sore losers! Take the loss like men! If anything, they should welcome Ahn back into their fold -- they'll only get better by playing against the man who beat them.

Screw them. If that's the way they feel about it, he's better off with the Koreans.

But on the other hand, it may be just as well, considering they'd probably lynch him when he got back to his club team.

Ahn plays soccer for a club team in Italy. You have to be pretty damn good to play there, apparently, and Ahn played for a bit but now they're not inviting him back because he "ruined Italian football"...

Now, to be fair to the sore losers, I can understand their rage. After all, they had a goal taken from them in OT and had one of their players ejected on questionable call...

to all of these, I reply, "SCOREBOARD, BABY!"

Hey, the Lakers shoulda lost Game 4 against the Kings because Samaki Walker's 3 at the end of the first half shouldn't have counted. Boo hoo.

It's the nature of dealin with refs in sports, you win some, you lose some.

My ref-innocence was first lost about 8 years ago, when the Dallas Cowboys were playing the Niners in the NFC Championship Game in SF. The Boys were comin back and Aikman was throwing long downfield to Michael Irvin when Deion Sanders *[b:574104e9c2]totally[/b:574104e9c2]* interferred. Irvin was furious at the non-call, Cowboys lose.

After the game, reporters asked Irvin over and over whether there should have been a call, and he replied, "Yeah, he got me...so what? What are you gonna do about it?" And that was that.

Course...he mighta been so blase about it because he was coked up, but that's another story.

Its just a game....to italians its everything they had hoped for...since Italy and Mexico are big soccer fanatics and the US and Korea won over them...take it like a man..

Ahn doesn't need to play soccer in Italy to show how damn good he is...he has proven enough when he got that goal for korea in to win over Italy.

I know man.....

[quote:1efd7a4d98]Even if the Koreans don't make the semifinal, Hiddink will be a national hero. The government is considering giving him honorary citizenship and local authorities planning to name streets and erect statues in his honor. [/quote:1efd7a4d98]

I found this on the cnnsi.com site .

Isn't that taking it to the extreme? I mean, i knew koreans were kinda xenophobic with the american presence there, but they are now naming streets after him? wow...things change.

Asians ready to blacklist Perugia over Ahn conflict

Thu Jun 20, 3:57 PM ET
By ERICA BULMAN, Associated Press Writer

YOKOHAMA, Japan - A South Korean's game-winning World Cup goal against Italy has set off a furor between his Italian club team and the Asian Football Confederation.

After Ahn Jung-hwan scored the overtime goal to eliminate Italy on Tuesday night, the owner of Perugia of the top Italian division said Ahn would be cut.

That angered the confederation, which threatened to blacklist Perugia if the team gets rid of Ahn, meaning it would tell Asian players to stay away from the Italian club.

I think it would be a flight risk if any asian players went back to that club. As far as im concerned, there are people who are bashing asian exchange students after that loss....
