Bs Court Ruling

i read an article in the newspaper that really pissed me off. a korean guy with went to a white bar with his white girlfriend. 3 white men were not happy to see this and began to taunt him. at closing hour when the couple was leaving the 3 white men followed and tried to attack the korean guy. in self defense he pulled out his boxcutter knife that he uses at work and fought back...the 3 white men were sent to the hospital for a month. later the korean man turned himself in. at court the focking judge ruled out his plea of self defense and was charged of battery and assault!!! THATS BULLSHIT!!! what was he supposed to do, take all of them by himself??? someone help this poor guy. i forgot his name and lost the article..is there anything we can do??

Korean newspapers are heavily biased.

That said, if this info is actually factual, you'd think it would be in English language media by now.

perhaps. but we probably shouldn't discount the Korean newspaper so easily. judging from his SN, he probably lives in Austin. how diverse and racially sensitive is Austin? (i know it's Texas, but that wasn't a rhetorical question.)

Re: Bs Court Ruling

Austin is known for being a fairly liberal town.

If everything you said is right altezzaaustin, then yeah you're right. I wonder how valid is a self-defense plea in court in any case, whether it involves asians, whites, or whoever.

Re: Bs Court Ruling

if this guy had a weapon, like a box cutter, in some places that is not considered a defense tool, especially if the assailants are unarmed. Not saying that it was a right ruling, but I know that in some cases where a person was being attacked and shot at his attacker woudning them that self defense gets ruled out. Action - Reaction, but sometimes the reaction level is unjustified.

Re: Bs Court Ruling

I think California is too much of a "pooh-pooh" state when it comes to using weapons for self-defense.

I've lived in Texas during my childhood years. In Texas, if a burglar enters your house, and you fell threatened, you have the right to shot at the suspect.

In California, there's so much political circus events, that the laws and rules seem pretty "unclear". That's my opinion on California and its laws.

Danny:

Easy said than done. Look at the scenario. Three white males about to harrass or attack the single Korean male. Come on bro, if I was in the Korean man's case, I'd defend myself with anything I could. I can't comment much because I don't really know what happened that night.

But I know the court system in Cally. You live in Florida, so things out there are different. Trust me, I've seen many Asians get tough punishment and sentences as opposed to Hispanic or Black defendants.

For example, there's the case where a Vietnamese gang member shot a CHP (Cal. Highway Patrol) officer, and of course, the officer died at th scene. The trial began 3 months later. It only took the jury an hour to deliberate to give the Vietnamese defendant the harshest sentence.

In my opinion, if the defendant was black, the jury would take more time to deliberate on an issue like this.

there could've been many factors
as to why they jury came to a quick decision.

but are there reasons as to why you believe this?

A gang member shoots a cop and you're pissed that he was convicted and punished? Who gives a shit if he was Asian. He murdered someone.

I disagree that the jury would have been more hesitant to convict a black defendant, especially if the cop and jury were white.
