Places to visit in LA

So we are driving to LA from San Diego for one day. What's there to see?
Korea Town, Little Tokyo, and of course Chinatown all look pretty intriguing.

Chinatown is tiny and kind of whack and now tons of White people live there. Head over another 20 minutes to the San Gabriel Valley and get a good meal. Check out Shik Do Rak or Soot Bul Jeep in Ktown for decent BBQ.

The Japanese American National Museum is something that should definitely be checked out and MOCA is literally across the street a few blocks. Also Pinkberry.

If you're there on the 1st or 3rd Tuesday night of the month you should check out Tuesday Night Cafe at Aratani Courtyard Sq. 120 Judge John Aiso St. [I think] tnkat.org. Just a small open mic thing, pretty nice.

Re: Places to visit in LA

The Chinatown was huge compared to the one in Chicago and the Empress Pavilion was pretty good.

sorry i didn't respond earlier. if you're only in s.d., you should visit more often.

you need to hit:

1) focus plaza in sgv - have dinner at new capital seafood.
2) hakata ramen in gardena
3) nbc seafood in alhambra for dimsum.
4) newport seafood for dinner - monterey park or rowland heights - it's viet chinese, get the crab & shaken beef.
5) the plazas in rowland heights - diamond, yes, and i can't remember third but they're just clusters of plazas with chinese and korean restaurants, boutiques, etc.
6) phoenix bakery for dessert.
7) savoy, sgv - hainan chicken rice.

i eat a lot, obviously.

Re: Places to visit in LA

i had visited LA a couple of years ago
or so. i ended up meeting my b/f's family
at that time...

dunno what it was...
maybe i've become more
of a suburban type of person
but when i had visited koreatown
it didnt seem like the safest
of neighborhoods to want to be in...
maybe it was just that particular
area i was in...
and i had visited more at night time...

i will be visiting again in mid september.
i will keep more of an
open mind next time...
and i will visit during the day...
