What is the best site for movie downloads?

if you download from suprnova you should get PeerGuardian, especially if you download new movies. the MPAA connects to the trackers and waits for you to upload bits of the movie and will hunt you down. PeerGuardian is a very very basic firewall that blocks known MPAA IP's from connecting to you. The problem is there are always new IPs and it's always a catchup game.

Join the forums as well so you can read up on fake files. The community and admins are pretty good about keeping the site relatively safe.

so would having zone alarm installed on my pc do the same thing? or do i have to get peer guardian in order to be protected?

Calling PeerGuardian a firewall is somewhat misleading. Let's say your computer is a house. ZoneAlarm is a "real" software firewall that acts as a securirty guard, stopping people who are trying to smash bricks into your windows, and letting people through your front door. PeerGuardian is much more stripped down. It knows "bad guys" like the MPAA and doesn't care how they're getting in, it blocks them, and them alone.

Every computer should have a real software firewall (even if it's the one that comes with Windows SP2). PeerGuardian and the other one mentioned are useful only in the context of P2P sharing. ZoneAlarm could be extended to do what PeerGuardian does, since it has the ability to block by IP (who is coming in), but it's a very long list.

I've only heard about the MPAA and new movies. TV shows that aren't ripped from DVDs/BoxSets aren't as juicy to the copyright holders since the only thing they would really complain about is eyes not seeing the ads. Refer to the suprnova forums for more current info.

God I forgot it's wrong to download free movies. And yes I can blame men because my movie fiend boyfriend's been bugging me about getting this for months! I am perfectly happy with Netflix.

well, are you "backing up" your netflix movies? get a copy of "dvd x copy" (online; the company went bankrupt because the supreme court... well, never mind). and then you can make copies...

i just watch netflix movies, i never copy them. he needs to watch a movie a day and netflix is too slow.

The radio shack guys said the ones we're looking at like the one above where you pay a fee are are legal even if the fees are small (like $1.99 a month). i looked at the small print and it said that it's currently legal but pending in an appeal by the MPAA. Should I be scared? Don't millions of people use these sites? Wouldn't millions get in trouble? Is it really legal?

The particular site you posted is a scam. When you pay the fee they give you free software. Free software as in software freely available elsewhere. They're just hooking you up with eMule (download it from sf.net) and Grokster, then leave you to do the rest. There is no legal movie download service right now.

I'm not sure what the Radio Shack guy is referring to. The problem with movie downloads is the MPAA's control over movie distribution. Digital downloads are a totally different situation from Netflix which is essentially renting a physical copy of a movie via mail (which legally, is no different from walking into your local Blockbuster). Until the MPAA locks digital downloads with DRM techniques, there will be no legal means of distributing them.

If a site is promising a legal way to download movies, they are straight-out lying. If they are charging for it, they are total scum. The mp3downloadhq site has been mentioned many times in the eMule community since they are basically ripping off their free work.
