wisdom teeth woes

as i posted elsewhere, i had my wisdom teeth out and kim wanted an update. i figured i'd put this blog to use.
so i had them removed the 11th. that's about a week and a half ago, and i'm still suffering (whining?). on about the 3rd night, i felt nauseas and dry heaved into the toilet. that sudden jump in blood pressure burst something in my mouth i bled the toilet completely red in a few seconds. i was at my parents' place for dinner (all mush) and when they saw that blood red bowl, they drove me to the emergency room. i had stopped the bleeding on my own by then tho.
for the next week, i bled profusefly at the slightest uptick in blood pressure or heart rate. a sneeze. standing up after reading at BAM. playing a competitive online game. seeing at a hot girl. i mean are u fucking serious? i can't look at hot girls?
anyways, the doc takes a look at my mouth and doesn't see any sign of infection. i go home and proceed to bleed. finally, about a week after, i stop bleeding so easily. i only bleed after prolonged high blood pressure such as on a long competitive match online. but start feeling ill (have a fever and am achy) and when i do bleed i bleed thru my nose and my mouth. wtf? why am i bleeding out of my nose?!
turns out i have an oroantral fistula where i must have popped a blood vessel. it takes awhile to pop, but the blood clots in some passage from my oral to nasal cavity. i coughed up a 2" x 3" monster blood clot monday night and started smelling something weird in my right nostril. great. in addition to worrying about bleeding, now i get to smell weird stuff ALL FUCKING DAY.
yesterday, i rinsed my mouth vigorously w/ salt water to see if that fistula had closed. after some rinsing, brownish-red, awful smelling blood started dripping out my nostril and continued as long as i was rinsing. called the doc today and nurse said fever is me fighting off some infection and is ok unless it gets really high. and old smelly blood is pretty normal in dental work and body will absorb it eventually as the fistula heals. so that's where i'm at.
all this and there's only 3 wks left till i leave for the olympics. good thing i bought insurance on that plane ticket.

heh, yeah. i asked a family friend to refer me to someone else and she responded today. apparently the guy she knows is from the same medical group and said it'd be awkward to see me b/c he works w/ my doc. figures.
thx for asking btw. |

You coughed up a 2" by 3" blood clot?!
Wow, totally beats my friend's clot from his wisdom teeth extraction. It was the size of a marble. (from the gapping hole the tooth left) He spat it out, and it was friggen ...weird... ![]() |

A long time ago I met with my friend in after he had his wisdom teeth taken out, four of them. He looked a little woozy from the aftereffects from the anesthesia and the pain killers that was administered to him. All of a sudden he spat out HUGE blobs of blood. I had to take him back to the hospital again so one of the doctors can stop the bleeding.
This dude was out for like a whole week. He was really fucked up. This is why I am shit scared of getting MY wisdom teeth taken out. I don't trust these oral surgeons. |

I'm getting all four wisdom tooth and a deep scaling (cleaning) done. I did the right side of my mouth today. Wasn't as bad as I thought. My periodontist came highly recommended from work.

if i didn't develop a fistula i prolly wouldn't have had any problems. i never experienced severe pain except during and after my bleeding sessions. my cheek and the back of my right eye would throb really badly... i guess from blood filling cavities where it shouldn't have been. i got bad headaches whenever that eye saw bright lights.
i'm recovering pretty well now tho. got better antibiotics and that killed the fever. haven't bled in over a week, but i'm still not about to go exercise or anything. |
