do you like to follow fashion trends or do you have your own style independent of those trends? are you somewhere in between? where would you fall on the continuum? do trends matter to you? why?

depends on my mood... and it depends on what the fashion trend is. if i like it, i might just follow it. if i don't, i've got my own style.

since i'm out doorsy and active in sports, i guess i'm sort of on the sporty side.

course, now that i'm pregnant, i'm limited to what's in fasion in the maternity stores. :P at least some of the maternity stores have really improved (like gap or old navy maternity... or motherhood.com)

Mmm, you gotta be careful about trend following. Especially at my age. You start looking like those older women trying to look 20 again. Fine line between fashionable and fasion victim.

in l.a., it's kinda hard to tell 30 year olds from 20 year olds - and all of us in between - because everyone kinda dresses the same. that seems to be pretty acceptable here, but i've noticed it's different in other areas.

general question re: jeans - would you ever wear jeans from a few seasons ago? would you feel self-conscious? i do it sometimes, but i feel very self-conscious when i do. pretty lame, eh? anyone else like me?

I do.. do jean trends really change that much? If they do, oops.

I figure better to be out of style than look fashion victimy.

I have to follow fashion to some extent, because of my work. I am a fashion writer so for me to not wear something trendy would be a contradiction. But then, I wear what I want to wear - the 80s look is coming back in London, with leggings, legwarmers, shocking neon colours and patterned tights but you're not gonna see me in any of those! No way Jose!

I'll just wear my normal jeans teamed up with pointy heels and maybe accessorise with a shocking pink belt or pink shoes or something. Not do the whole outfit, just some of it so that I look like I follow fashion. Does this make sense?

I like to think of my wardrobe as being quite classic and timeless (lots of black, red, blue and white). And jeans are my favourites - Kasia, it doesn't matter what colour blue your jeans are - as long as they're not white or black (I used to have a pair, which soon turned grey!), you're fine. :)

i still do.
i have jeans from HS i still wear.
they only fit me on my skinny days though.
but i also wear those because they're
low waisted and bootcut.
i don't know how i wore high waisted jeans.
they're so uncomfortable.

I wear what I want to wear and sometimes fashion trends follow.

I don't think I've ever been one to follow fashion trends.

that makes sense...kinda like you're laid back but you like to incorporate some of the trends into your dress, right?

i can't wait til the 80's look comes back!! i think it will take another 2 years to hit us, no? it'll be fun.

what magazine do you write for?

It would be rad!

I can't wait to peg my pants again...or to scope out all you chicks in those spandex bike shorts.

If you'll excuse me now, I need to go look for my fanny pack.

How about the ponytail on the side of the head? That was my personal favorite.

It's all about the banana clips.

Mmm. Know what? I'm old enough to have some photos of my bitchin' 80s hair. Might be time to fire up my scanner.

I don't really follow trends, nor do I care about them.
If I want to wear something, and I think it looks good, then I wear it. I usually get compliments for what I wear, so it's all good. I rarely feel self conscious.
Plus I'm a fashion designer, so that might also explain it. Going out wearing something out of the ordinary is fun.

And get the latest from Fashion Week NY every fall, in order to update the closet for Spring . . . and attend all trunk shows in LA . . .

just playin'!!

I follow fashion trends, but only pick out the ones I like and fit my body type, too many chicks on campus look like hapless fashion victims and it's just funny to point at them and laugh. :eat_arrow

Yeah, I can't wait to grow a mullet and wear hot pink shirts with shoulder straps

I agree the 80's were a shocking period for fashion and I for one thought it would never come back. Alas.... Anyway I don't consider myself a follower of fashion or a follower of anything really. I do have a magazine addiction though. How I choose my outfits everyday? Well the criteria is as follows (in order of importance):

1. It fits.
2. It's clean.
3. It doesn't look stupid.
4. It doesn't need ironing.
5. It can be removed easily.
