View Full Version : McDonald's Testing Adult Happy Meals
McDonald's, exonerated by a judge who dismissed an obesity lawsuit two weeks ago, is possibly trying to be responsive with their latest offering. Aided by Bob Greene, Oprah Winfrey's personal trainer, they are promoting an adult version of the Happy Meal, the fast-food giant's latest effort to offer healthier products.
Instead of Happy Meal standards like a burger and a toy, the new Go Active meal will include a salad, an exercise booklet and a pedometer meant to encourage walking.
Fitness guru Greene has agreed to help promote the "Go Active Meal," which is being test-marketed at 150 McDonald's restaurants in Indiana.

Pedometers are a nice psychological tool. A friend of mine who is trying to lose weight got a boost of motivation when she got one. Being able to see how far she travels gives her a more quantitative measure of her work compared to time alone, and allows for visible improvement; she tells me how she travels farther each day. If bundling pedometers can overcome the inertia of going out and buying one then I'm all for it. Of course, exercise is just one half of the problem. =D

How neat. Those obesity lawsuits are such BS. A load of crock in my opinion.

that's still not gonna entice me to eat at McDonalds.
If I eat at McDonald's, it's because I smelled somebody's fries and now I'm jonesing for some. It ain't because McDonalds is a great and wonderfully healthy place to eat.

the real question is, are happy meals CHEAPER than the other meals?

Most likely it's being offered to easily and quickly disarm any further lawsuits. I imagine by putting a healthy choice on the McD's menu they could argue it's the consumer's choice in eating the fatty meal. My suspicion is the meal isn't to meet a demand or find profit in it.

More adult related products at McDonalds? Anyone remember the Arch-Deluxe and the stupid commercials of Ronald McDonald playing golf? Why? WHY???
That said, I can't look at fast food anymore without getting violently ill at the prospect of consuming it.

the arch-deluxe wasn't bad. i kinda wish they were still around. but anyway, the adult happy meal-- suddenly makes the expression "happy meal whore" sound a lot less pedophilic. :)

If you look at the markets trends these days you can notice that there's a big shift from fast to healthy foods. Healthy food is what's 'in' right now, so probably what Mc Donald's is tryong to do is to promote a healthy food image to not lose face and customers.

This meal type will not sell at all until they begin putting extremely large amounts of oil and fat and cheese on every god damn thing including the soda.

Exactly. Mcdonalds should cash toward their foolishness. It should begin to sell three cheeseburgers and a salad packages. Their income would soar.
