Music: Misia , Dreams Come True (DCT) , Gospellers , Gakto, Li Wen (Coco Lee), Jay Chou, Ryo the Skywalker, Pushim.

I can say I actually got to meet Ryo the Skywalker, he is a Japanese reggae singer who is blowin' up now...I met him right when his first dropped at Club Harlem in Tokyo, he was promoting and chillin'...he made his album in Jamaica...cool cat...

(just can't decide cause I can understand Mandarin okay, but I prefer the Japanese music style so.. :( ).

Actress: Gong Li (there can be no other, there is only one Goddess)

Actor: Takeshi Kitano

Director: Zhang Zimou

Comedian: Sanma (Japanese)...his shit is universally funny...I loved watching Karakuri Telibi in Japan, although I couldn't understand half of it. :D

Eye Candy/Model/Talent: Noriko Fujiwara...

Noriko Fujiwara is fucking hot. HKers are crazy over her. or at least they were, when i was still there some year and a half ago.

why do people name more than one thing when "favourite", by definition, should only be one thing?

Music: Faye Wong

Director: Wong Kar Wai

Actor: not sure

Actress: probably Maggie Cheung

Actor: Toshiro Mifune. (1920-1997)

Music: Still a Beyond fan. Also Poetic Ammo (http://www.poeticammo.net/) (rising M'sian stars, rapping and singing in English, Cantonese, Malay, and Tamil!). And Globe, David Tao, Jay Chou. Don't really have much preference in female singers though ...

Comedian: While I was in HK I was on a Dayo Wong kick for a while. And of course, everyone loves Steven Chow. But I'm not familiar enough with Japanese comedy to say much on it.

Actor: Kitano Takeshi. Also like Kimura Takuya, for some reason.

Actress: Dunno.

I'm surprised, I thought you guys like skinny chicks that look real innocent like, uh...I don't know...Kelly Chen or something. Fujiwara-san has some big uh...assets. ;) Well there was Pang Dan, but I don't know how famous she was in HK.

I dunno...Noriko's pretty but not that pretty. She looks like the typical Japanese celebrity to me except taller and bigger breasted and probably has more ass too. It's not b/c I think she's fat or nuthin, haha. And I dun think Kelly Chen is skinny.

it's a double standard of sorts. if a HK celebrity comes out with big titties and a phat ass, she's cheap. if a foreign celebrity comes out with big titties and a phat ass, she's loved. *shrug*

How famous was Dianne Pang Dan:

<img src='http://www.hkfilm.net/diana/diana6.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Was she one of those "cheap actresses" I know she came from the Mainland, and surprisingly she has always kept her clothes on (well no full nude) :angry: I saw a few of her movies a long time ago, but to be honest I don't watch or listen to any Hong Kong/Canto stuff cause I can't understand it, I mostly watch Mandarin stuff cause I can listen to it and when I don't understand I can peak at the subtitles, good practices. ;)

Anyway I don't want to turn this into another hot girlie thread, so...

Yes for those into J-pop they are kind of old school, Yoshida Miwa is approaching 40, but to me she has the best voice of any Asian singer I have ever heard (even the Mandarin/Canto-pop singer Wang-Fei or Coco Lee(Li Wen)).

My favorite DCT album was Monster, came out in the last 90's...that was off the chain, during my time in China I listened to that more than Chinese music. Yoshida Miwa was born in Hokkaido (Northern big island in Japan) grew up on blues and jazz music. My favorite song is:
(Mikkatsuki) 三日月

**If you change your font to Japanese you can read this.
In Chinese it is "san ri yue." (big5) 三日月

"Funka Monster" was pretty good, it really sound like old 70's funk music with a laid back feel, not some cheesy retro crap...then again I guess Yoshida grew up in the 70's early 80's..sooooo

www.dctgarden.com/MIWA/index.html DCT broke up to my knowledge, that is what happens when the guitarist is a drug addict (I heard he was also an open homosexual too, not implying anything negative about homosexuals, but I thought it was significant he was open in Japan, I guess that is good for gay empowerment in Asia or whatever...uh..anyway) and you marry the other guy in the group, but...Yoshida-san is still doing her thing.

She did a song 24/7 and collaberated with a Japanese DJ DJ Hasubei for the remix...that song was "off the chain." (SWK, that means it was really really good :D ). She also did a few songs with Misia (another Japanese pop/R&B mainstream) singer...

Here is all the past albums:

This is Akashiya Sanma, this is a funny Mofo...and he has a funny ass show too, Karakuri-TV...the show is a Japanese variety show...typical style, but truely funny.

At night on Saturday he would get a bunch of young girls (like 19-25) and ask them stupid questions, usually sex related and if they said something real stupid he would hit them on the head...and trust me these girls were real stupid, so they got hit a lot. :lol:

On Sunday he has games shows for people in retirement homes, and ask them things like, "what is rap.." "who sang some lyrics from a popular pop song.." it is funny...cause they are all in their 80-90's. he also has one for drunk business men to call home late at night and ask their wives something stupid. For a long time they had this skit, where they had these three black guys and this white guy, all of them spoke fluent Japanese (one of them, Eric is mod at Black Tokyo), it was real funny (acter my wife translated it, the humor was a little complicated..)

<img src='http://www.afroeric.com/photogallery/The-Cast--@-Karuta.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Dude with the afro is by boy Eric, the other guys are African...dude making a stupid face is Nigerian, not my father's tribe, but I still have to give him props. :D

This show would come on every Sunday. White boy and the African dude would go out on the street (white guy started this) and ask Japanese people to tell their scariest or funniest story in English and he would ask foreigners to do it in Japanese.

I also like Gackt-To.

Yeah he is a little weird he is in this Visual Kei music (that is why he is so pale and the contacts, that is not normal for Japanese singer)...my wife thinks he is a henjin (kind of like freak or pervert), but whatever...his music is kind of cool, and i think his style is not original it reminds me a hell of a lot of that David Bowie/Ziggy Star Dust thing back in the 70's.

<img src='http://www.mahamari.com/story/pics/sticker01.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Funniest thing about him was he did a woman's razor commercial, and the whole theme was...women in Japan should be happy if they have legs and arms as smooth are as Gackto-to. :D :D :D I was rollin'...I thought i misunderstood the advertisement, but I got it confirmed. :D He is effeminate (taking into account he is not Western), but when he talks, he sounds real manly, he has a deep voice and he comes off as the strong/silent type, so I don't know... Some women think he is gross looking (like my wife and her sisters), some think he is sexy. :unsure:

There there is Misia (Japanese R&B-J-pop singer).. This girl can blow (she can sing quite well for those not hip to the hip talk).

She has been big for about 4 years, but last year she had a huge song, "You're Everything" they played in nonstop for months (got on my damn nerves, I liked the song the first 10,000X I heard it).

<img src='http://metropolis.japantoday.com/biginjapanarchive/240/pics/misia.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

There were some rumors in the J-tabloids that she was getting freaky with a black American in Tokyo, I heard rumors too that Misia used to sneak to this Live Music Hall in Roppongi, and meet this brother who was a musician...my boy said the brother was seeing "chilin' with Misia, but that's it..." the gaijin community is real real small, especially the black North American (just a few hundred folks) in Tokyo..anyway enough dirt, I sound like an old woman. :D I used to chill with some low level gaijin (foreign) entertainers overthere, but I've been out of the loop too long. :( :(

Misia rocks the dredlocks, and she is not much to look at but she can sing...I wanted to see her in concert, but it sold out too quick. :pissed: :angry:

Misia

On July 7, Misia turned twenty, officially becoming an adult in Japan. And how did this Kyushu-native celebrate? By selling out the Budokan in thirty minutes and becoming the youngest, and only, Japanese female R 'n' B singer in history to do so. Having hit the music scene merely eight months ago on February 21 with the release of her debut single "Tsutsumi Komu You Ni," what could possibly account for Misia's meteoric rise from small-town obscurity to become, as several music critics have put it, "the 21st Century Diva"? In a word, talent. Serious talent that only comes along a few times in any given decade - or century for that matter.

In elementary school Misia knew she wanted to sing. After seeing a commercial for the gospel musical Mama, I Want to Sing she was hooked on the idea of singing gospel and R 'n' B. Misia played trumpet in her junior high school band, sang with her high school choir and eventually sought serious vocal training outside of what the Japanese public schools could offer her, finally finding two black vocal teachers who taught her gospel and R 'n' B singing techniques.

The president of Rhythmedia - an artist management office that develops hip hop dance acts and music - heard her at an amateur contest in May '97 and made her a recording offer on the spot. In September '97 Misia came to Tokyo with her parent's blessings and began a work schedule that would break even the most veteran professionals, much less a 19-year-old country girl fresh off the plane.

Enthusiastic and professional, Misia garnered serious respect by writing her own music and lyrics and staying involved in the arrangement process in spite of a grueling promotion, recording and training schedule. Everyone was in awe of her vocal power and five-octave range.

In early February, the Tokyo club scene buzz centered on Misia's funky debut single "Tsutsumi Komu You Ni" remix by popular house DJs Watarai and Muro. The following maxi-single, whose B-side featured her second hit "Never Gonna Cry" remixed by New York house DJ Junior Vasquez sold out in two days. In March Misia made her live debut at Tokyo's Harlem, packing the 600-capacity club with 1200 fans. Every concert from Hokkaido to Kyushu has produced the same reaction. Misia's singles and her album Mother Father Brother Sister have remained at the top of the charts for weeks even though Misia has made no appearances on TV music shows. The album is still on back order at record stores across Japan, having sold over 1.2 million copies in a matter of days.

In October Misia began her first national tour of clubs and college festivals. All venues were sold out months ago, some in just five minutes. The only chance of seeing Misia live is in Hyogo Prefecture at Kansai Gakuin Daigaku's school free open-air concert. Or you could buy a ticket from a scalper outside the Budokan - but JY5250 tickets are now going for JY20,000. Combining a hometown girl personality and a great voice, Misia is a real talent to watch. Check out Misia's website.
