Harry Flynt to run for gov. in CA.

Hustler publisher Larry Flynt running for California governor
By Associated Press, 8/04/2003

Among those hustling for a spot on California's recall ballot to replace Governor Gray Davis is Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt.

Flynt pledged to erase the state's deficit by allowing private casinos to install slot machines.

"I really think I can do a better job of balancing the budget than those pinhead bureaucrats in Sacramento," Flynt said today.

Flynt, who made his fortune in the pornography industry, also said he'd overhaul the state's education system and give amnesty to all illegal immigrants in the state, but then shut down the border.

Flynt calls himself a smut peddler but thinks voters will look beyond that. Sitting in his gold-plated wheelchair with his wife and daughter nearby, Flynt said "I may be paralyzed from the waist down, but unlike Governor Gray (Davis), I'm not paralyzed from the neck up."

You mean this:

On Tuesday, August 5th at 12:45pm, we have organized a special gathering to pray to God for Fox News Channel blowhard Bill O'Reilly's death.

That's kind of creepy.

Well. As Flynt doesn't believe in God, it's more of a tongue-in-cheek jab at O'Reilly's "no-spin" claim. But yeah, it's kinda equivelant to wishing for someone's death. Of course, since Ventura is no longer on the national scene, it would be interesting to have a colorful governor. As long as it's not in my state.

The Terminator: who recently stated Asians are small and therefore actors such as Jackie Chan or Jet Li can't use brute strength in action flicks like his big european self can, so they must resort to thier speedy little martial arts tricks. Arnold from Diff'rent Strokes. And the porn king Larry Flynt...Only in America...

He was the mayor of Cleveland during the time that it defaulted (went bankrupt). He was caught in scandal of his own making when he visited a hooker and wrote her a rubber check. Yeah, it's pretty much been downhill ever since...

The funny thing is, his talk show wasn't always so controversial. I saw an early, early episode (with a peach pastel set) where he had on a bunch of people who had upwards of 30 pets each. Perfectly harmless daytime chatter. Kinda makes you wonder how it became the mess it is today

Thanks for nothing:

Republican Congressman Darrell Issa, who bankrolled the effort to recall Gov. Gray Davis and was one of the first to say he wanted to replace him, said he will not run in the Oct. 7 election.

His announcement comes a day after actor and fellow Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger entered the race.

I figure that he thought it would be smooth sailing. Bankrole his bid for an election, slam Gov. Davis with BS, then waltz right in to the state capital.

Little did he know that his past would be put against him. And his credibility would be questioned.

Now onto smearing Arnie.

Well, but some experts say that the California constitution opened itself up for this recall petition. California's recall language should have had something in there to prevent frivilous or baseless claims for a recall -- which a lot of folks on both sides of the political spectrum are saying is the case.

Regardless of my feelings on Davis, I am totally against retarded recall efforts. They're about as democratic and empowering of the citizenry as California's state propositions -- but even those don't get thrown on some special ballot to hit an already low-voting rate public by surprise.

I hope Darrell Issa is happy with the circus he's begun.

Should have just spent it on a worthwhile charity, rather than satisfying her ego.

Regarding her open letter:

While this recall is abhorrent, it does provide us citizens an opportunity rare in this modern political landscape: a means to take back this state.

It's a very small means. After the big boys starting shelling out the tens of thousands of dollars in just one day, she'll wish she had spent the doe on fixing up her Cabriolet.

Hanging Chads Are Back!

According to this NY Times story (via Yahoo!) (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=68&ncid=68&e=14&u=/nyt/20030810/ts_nyt/awildcardanditisntschwarzenegger), the infamous punch card ballots will be used in the recall election. The ballots are known for causing problems for Florida in the 2000 Presidential election. While the ballots are outlawed in California, the ban does not take place until March 2004, and many counties have not updated to the newer machines. More than half of California's 58 counties, including Los Angeles County, will use the punch cards. Although the publicity is said to make voters more aware of the inaccuracies, making the ballots reliable, the number of candidates may make it very clumsy.

Independent Poll Places Bustamante Ahead of Schwarzenegger; Davis Less Popular

Unlike many other polls, which group Davis among the other candidates, a poll asking the same quests the actual ballot would places Bustamante at getting 25% of the vote. Schwarzenegger follows with 22%, and the rest follow in single digits.

State Sen. Tom McClintock took 9 percent; businessman Bill Simon won 8 percent; former baseball commissioner Peter Ueberroth received 5 percent; all three are Republicans. Independent and columnist Arianna Huffington got 4 percent, and Green Party candidate Peter Camejo received 2 percent.

The poll also found that Davis' approval rating is 22 percent, the lowest ever for a California governor. His ouster is now supported by 58 percent, a rise from last month's 51 percent.

it's funny how this "historic recall" vote quickly got turned into "huge but not really funny joke." i mean, aren't there over 100 candidates for governor now? some of whom have openly said "i'm not even gonna try." Personally, I think Gary Coleman SHOULD try. Arnold vs Arnold. How cool would that be huh?

Contribute Campaign Funds, Date Porn Star

Porn actress Mary Carey, one of 135 candidates running for governor of California, has offered to go on a date with anyone giving $5,000 or more to her campaign to replace Gov. Gray Davis if he is recalled by voters Oct. 7.

Asked if the date could lead to a sexual encounter, campaign aide Jayson Helgeson replied, "I don't think so, that's not part of it. It's like a normal date." Pressed to clarify what a normal date means for a woman who has appeared in both explicit lesbian and heterosexual scenes, he put the phone on hold to clarify and then responded: "No sex, no matter what."

"Hung Chad"

"Govern-her"

"Mary Carey vs. Gary Poleman"

okay sorry that was stupid

but man imagine if she won, itd be entertaining for a few days then we'd be really fucked

not sure which registrar this is from (http://server.kozinski.com:8080/~yale/ballot/)
Alameda County fit it on a single 8.5x14 page apparently (http://www.ofrenda.org/pho/photo/030911_ca_recall_1pp.gif)

Images are large.
