Goodbye for now.
- 2000

I guess I knew that it would happen.
That his long journey would end.
Now, I’m just not ready
To say goodbye to my elder friend.

He would give me piggybacks and candy,
Or read me books and play catch for fun.
He would say goodbye before leaving for work.
I’m just not ready for his “goodbye forever, son.”

- Pop is still alive and kicking. But thought of this one night when thinking about how he has aged and how I would miss him if he died.

My Angel.
- 1993.

If patience was a virtue
She'd be a saint.
If kindness was heavenly
She'd be an angel.
When I think of her inner beauty
My heart grows faint.
She has a cleanness of spirit
That no impurities can taint.

(Why I married my wife.)

A dog's life, part 1.
- 1999.

To force,
To restrain,
To control,
Something other than a human being
To become your heart and soul.

(Irony of man's best friend.)

You ought to publish these online for critics to peruse. Amateur critics, that is. Try this site if you're interested:

Nicky
- 2003

I used to choke at their second hand smoke
I used to gag when I took a drag
But then one day

I got all sore and didn't want any more
I got all weak and wanted to freak
My family started to pray

I lied there in a three month long stare
I lied there in my piss and shit
My family always cried

I raged then forgave
I accepted then went away
Leaving my last pack by daddy's side.

(In memory of Nicky, a niece in law who died at 20 of cancer.)
