It's too hot to go anywhere, so I just want to watch a rental and eat grapes while being fanned by the help.
Anyone know of any good old movies? My definition of "old" is anything that came out before I was born in 1984.

Anything from the 30s and 40s? Those movies are usually quite entertaining, especially the swashbuckling adventure ones.
If you just wanna veg out, I'd recommend Blade Runner (sci-fi), The Thing (horror), Airplane! (comedy), E.T. (awww! )

oooh. . .
Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Rashomon are my picks.
(then again, anything Audrey Hepburn is good :) )

There are a lot of great old movies. Unfortunately, only my parents know the names to them.
However, I think Citizen Kane, One Flew over the cuckoo's nest, The Taxi Driver, Rear Window, Star Wars and E.T.

I enjoyed the 40-50s-60s era of movies......the long epics like Lawrence of Arabia, Ben Hurr, Spartacus, Gone with the Wind to the musicals like Oklahoma!, Singin' in the Rain, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers..........depends on the mood. Name the situation. :P

12 Angry Men. I remember when one of the cable movie channels had the two versions -- old and new, and it was interesting to contrast the acting styles. Although, I think the newer was somewhat contrived.
Bullet with Steve MacQueen. Has probably the best car chase scene of all time. B)

Lots of good suggestions and some I've never heard of. Thanks.
Comments:
No Star Wars. Star wars is the devil.
No stupid action movies. They bore me. Girly movies, romantic movies, musicals, dramas.
Everglaze, Rear Window is great. I love all those Hitchcock movies.
Moschikat, I'd watch Audrey Hepburn watching paint dry. :D Why do all girls like her?
Adaon I will definitely check out those musicals. I'm a sucker for cheesy musicals.

I like Holiday Inn with Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. It's a nice comedic musical.
Lawrence of Arabia is epic

Citizen Kane is quite good, though a bit depressing
The Birth of a Nation is quite sweet if you ignore the lynching and ridicule of black people

Kentucy Fried Movie (1977)
It had a bruce lee spoof that I actually like a lot called Fist of Yen. But really it's a mash of fake commericals and skits that was considerably funny. It's also quirky as hell.
