Driving me crazy. Do you know what I am referring to when I say "eyelid problems"? I'm too lazy to explain it if everyone knows what I'm talking about.
Is this an exclusively hapa problem? I hope so because I'm posting on the hapa forum.

The only hapa-specific thing I can think of is that I have one eyelid that's folded, and one that's not... I know a couple of monoracials with that characteristic, though.

Or perhaps the eyelid problem you're having, CoagulatedFat, is one borne out of some type of infection or something along similar lines?
In which case, pay your doctor a visit and see what he thinks.

I know what it means to me personally. Sometimes eye makeup is a bitch to figure out, one of my eyelids is more caucasian than the other and my flat lids don't match my face in general. My guess is the guys wouldn't spend a moment thinking about it though.

Mike I Refuse To Call Emperor - This thread is heading nowhere.
My eyelids change every day. Sometimes one double eyelid is bigger than the other, sometimes they fold over so it looks like there's just one lid, sometimes there's one lid on one side and what could best be described as a triple eyelid on the other side. It looks nearly as bizarre as it sounds. I hoped that they would establish themselves as I got older, but no. HH what are "flat" lids?

That's "Your Most Christian Imperial Majesty" to you, CoagulatedFat! And why the refusal to address me by my title? Doesn't the shiny plastic crown adorned with paste stones of my avatar impress you? Hmmph. :D
Actually, I have the third eyelid thing going somedays too when I'm tired. I don't know when it started, but it's bizarre in a "This Reminds of the Time When I" story type of way.

I have never in my life heard about anyone, hapa or not, having such a problem. This sounds a bit weird to me quite frankly.......
And btw, aren't "Mongoloid" eyes (I don't know of another term for it, sorry) a dominant trait? Every person I've seen who was hapa always seem to adopt the "Mongoloid" eyes, if nothing else from their asian parent.

Mongoloid eyelids? With no fold? Is that what it is?

yea i'm monoracial/monoethnic too (although I don't believe in any type of pure Chinese blood or genetic homogenity) and although both of my eyes have folds, one eye seems to have a more prominent fold than the other, but on other days they are about the same *shrug* Maybe it's the grass-is-greener effect but I find monolids beautiful. Damn Mongolia-phile fetish.....

I'm dopey on this subject. What does a third lid look like?
My family is predominately non-Asian, but a lot, if not most of us, work different variations of the epicanthic fold.
For some of those without it, the shape of their eyes are so deceiving that it seems they have one anyhow.
I don't know if it is dominate, recessive, or what--Although, like skin color, I believe it to be neither--However, I think almost everyone with one parent with the fold in my family ends up with it as well.
Several people even look East Asian.

Eyes with the epicanthic fold are present on everyone in the womb, The trait goes away in every non-asian as the fetus develops.
Dominant or Recessive as it may be, there are plenty of us (ME ME ME) who did not recieve that part of DNA from our Asian parents.

Actually, you can find populations in Western Africa, as well as other areas on the continent, with the same trait.
While it's very much associated with Asians, it's not exclusive to Asians in the least.

Weird... Actually for me, I'm monolid (no folds) until I open my eyes really wide and then a fold appears. It's really weird. When I was younger, my eyelids were always changing... and apparently my fold is more persistant on my right eye, than my left. It's really weird.

A mono-lid is the shape of eyes you see if you look at Fireblade's picture.
A double lid is the type of eyes associated with Caucasians.

Eh, it's not bizarre at all. My right eye has an epicanthic fold and the left doesn't. Every day, I think -- I don't pay much attention to it and I don't think anyone has ever remarked to me about it.
Of course, that's probably because they're mesmerized by my grotesquely-wide cranium.

I sometimes have the triple eyelid too. Usually after staying up all night. Its kinda weird and its usually very apparent since I already have prominent double eyelids. (like my daddy)
And since we're on the subject on eyelids, does anyone else have eyelids where you look like you wear eyeshadow but you don't? I got that from my mom. Its weird cuz i dont know anyone else who has it. And i was somewhat "teased" by my friends in grade school cuz they all thought I wore makeup and it was supposedly a "bad" thing to do. kids. =)

yeah sometimes i get those, like when i sleep with my face on the pillow in such a way as to distort the lid folding. usually when that happens I try to squint a lot to make it less apparent.

Amen to that. If I sleep on my face weird, my eyelids get messed up.
I think the best way to describe a triple eyelid is one that folds over twice, because a "double" eyelid really just has one fold.

i used to have that problem - up til i turned 23? fairly recently. i always got it when i didn't get enough sleep. very annoying. i'd sit in front of my mirror during the mornings with a washcloth on one eye trying to make it go double again. my mom told me it would go away once i hit my mid-20's...i didn't believe her, but it seems to be true. haven't had that problem for a long while. something for some of you to look forward to?

Weird that it would take over 20 years for the lids to settle down, or up, or however they're going to be. But I look forward to it. Looks like mine will probably turn out as small double lids, so yay, I can wear eyeshadow. But you can put your money on monolids or triple lids, or any combination of monolids, double lids, or triple lids. Anyone wanna bet me?

From what I've seen. many Caucasian women have a bit of a recess above their eye. It's a reference point for a lot of eye makeup techniques. Most likely it's just my pet term for monolid. I didn't grow up with correct Asian American terminology.

sometimes the whole eyelid issue (changing so sporadically) ocurrs due to diet. when you eat dampening food (alcohol for example, your eyes get puffy. your face swells a bit. affects the eyelids.
but yeah, i got that problem too. and y'all would never know.

I don't think that's what kuanyin meant, but I am going to call liquids "dampening foods" from now on.
Hiroshi, I will try to explain. Kay. Um... look at the guy's picture that I posted. He has triple eyelids, there's one main fold and then a sort of fold in the middle of that fold. We're talking about when a person has one of those and a regular double eyelid, or a double eyelid and a monolid/stereotypical Asian "hooded" eyelid. I hope that makes sense.

A few days ago one of my eyelids didn't do the double eyelid and was liek folded back halfway like up toward my forehead. It was a bit frightening but it straightened itself out. I think I wasn't getting enough sleep.
