Ohhh! You shouldn't have cancelled! Is it too late to call back and re-institute the appointment? You might've thrown a perfect opportunity out the window without realising it! Not all graphic designers are equal, you know and not all branches of the industry concentrate on one thing.
Best of luck in any case! :)

well i told them something came up...and they asked if i could come in later that afternoon.
it sounds like they are really strapped or something, but it's a sign making company... i wouldn't even be doing graphic design that i've actually done. textbook layout..brochures..
my portfolio consists of medical illustration/visualization... actually it'll probably gross some people out.. :/

Isn't there a saying that much of what you need in life is learned outside of school? In any case, you have the foundations art-wise so adapting to whatever circumstances along the road shouldn't be too much of a bother. You have the skills, yes? It's really only a question of practical application.

Mike, I think I would had thought the same way as artzygrrl, but now that you've explained it, going along with the interview seems like a very sound approach.
Artzygrrl, good luck on your job searching.

I had the same thing going on in LA a month ago, the company wouldn't pay much, and they said they'd sponsor my visa after seeing my work performance in 1 year, which meant that I'd have to stay illegally in the States.
The pros about Korean companies; they'll beg you to work for them
The cons; they won't pay much and if you're careless; your boss rip you off

Just work there until a better opportunity comes up. At least you'll have some graphic design experience to put on a resume, even if the work is less than ideal. There might be some industry standards or softwares they'll teach you on the job.

yeah.. i want to interview..
but the fact of the matter is, my portfolio will not fly for a graphic design position... If I had any amount of decent 'graphic design' pieces to show..i'd def go.
that's what i get for specializing as an undergrad..arg should have gotten a masters in medical illustration and studied 'regular art' something for undergrad.

Try all the same if it's not too late. What's the worse than can happen? The company says "no?" But the good in this instance far outweighs the bad, I think.
Like I said before, it doesn't matter what type of art you specialised in. The very fact that you have the ability to draw something well is good enough as a solid foundation.
Unless you're bad at what you do. That isn't the case, I hope? :)
Never shy away from an opportunity. Seize every advantage you're presented with and play every hand Life deals you regardless of whether it appears good or bad. The reason why people fail at what they do or achieve nothing more than mediocrity is because they're afraid to take chances. Don't be. Such a philosophy is the absolute worse thing anyone can subscribe to. Be bold and good luck!
